Questions & Answers

Do I need these Skid Shoes if I have a blacktop driveway?

Asked by: Nani
It will eliminate the scrapping marks that you will sometimes get with the steel shoes on the blacktop. I should have bought these years ago. Plus my new 28" Deluxe Blower has auto turn and it does seem to help glide the blower along much easier than the steel shoes.

I have not used these yet since we have not had snow, but they should be much better than the steel shoes that came with my new snowblower. The steel shoes had been a big issue with rust on the driveway and abrasion marks. It was interesting to see that the new shoes I purchased at Home Depot were designed a little differently ( steel inserts) than the ones in the picture on their site and other sites that I had visited. I contacted Ariens and they told me that the shoes I bought at Home Depot were the latest design and better that the pictures I had seen. The older design was a complete composite shoe and Ariens told me that there were problems with those shoes loosening up, Lots of sites still have the old design composite shoes for sale. Time will tell how the new shoes handle and wear in the snow. I am pleased Home Depot had the latest version of the product..

If you have the original steel shoes on your snowblower throw them in the garbage these plastic shoes save you from rust stains on your driveway, the snowblower rolls along smoother, they last longer and you won't have rust stains from the skids in your garage. Easiest upgrade you can make on your snowblower especially if you have a concrete driveway. Just do it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These should be the standard shoes I bought my Ariens snowblower last season for use on our new concrete driveway. The snowblower did a great job of clearing snow, but the spring showed all sorts of scarring and scuffing of our new driveway surface caused by the steel shoes that were on my Ariens when I bought it. I was angry about it but determined I would find a way to prevent it this season. I was surprised to find these non-abrasive skid shoes. They make absolute sense, were easy to install, and have even made snow blowing easier. Ariens should have made these the standard and offered the steel shoes as the option!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect! These Skid Shoes are exactly what I hoped for. Easy to install and they are a must have on these big snowblowers.

I was not happy with my new Ariens Snow-Thro Deluxe 28 snow blower with Auto-Turn. The metal skids kept digging into the pavement, which on my driveway is uneven. The digging in would not let me go in a straight line due to the Auto-Turn feature wanting to pull me in the direction of the skid that had dug in. The Non-Abrasive Skid Shoes solved this problem though it bugged me that I had to spend and additional $38 after tax to fix it. It would be my recommendation that these Skid Shoes be the standard ones. They would work on any surface and Ariens would have fewer unhappy customers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Accessory This is how Ariens makes extra $$$! The skid shoes that come as standard with the snowthrower are metal and boy do they scratch up concrete. These shoes are made of a very hard plastic and much friendlier to your hard surfaces. Unless you don't care or have a gravel driveway, I would recommend swapping our the metal shoes with these.
