Control acoustics while maintaining an open, exposed structure design with ACOUSTAFFIX fine-textured panels in white. These 2 ft. x 4 ft. panels provide superior sound absorption and blend into the deck. Three installation methods using either specialized hardware or glue allow panels to directly mount to ceilings and walls.
  • Ideal for exposed structure ceilings and walls when traditional suspended ceilings are not desired
  • Designed to blend in with the existing deck while providing superior sound absorption (NRC 0.75)
  • Superior sag and mold resistance

I do not want a closed ceiling. 1) Can these acoustic tiles be screwed directly to the ceiling of a mech room in the basement that allows noise to bedroom above? I do not want to interfere with low side of joists which have wires along the wall. The ceiling of the mech room is the underside of the bedroom floor, which the builder installed for wall to wall carpet in the bedroom. The ceiling spaces involved are reachable, no pipes or wires along the joists or ceiling. 2) Are the screws so long they might come up to the rug? 3) I'd cut the 24" width to 15.5" & run 48" at a time. What do I need to cut the tiles? xacto knife, circular saw, industrial sticky-back velcro, other? 4) Can you suggest a less expensive acoustic remedy? Appearance is irrelevant -- it's a mech room in the corner of the basement.

Hello, I will answer your questions in the sequence you asked them. 1. This depends on your substrate your ceiling is and what your screwing into. I have attached the installation guide for this product below which covers in depth installation for each installation method. The panels are designed to reduce the noise within the room. They will not be able to reduce the amount of sound transfer from room to room or floor to floor. Armstrong does not make ceiling tiles for floor to floor sound transfer. https://www.armstrongceilings.com/pdbupimages-clg/225519.pdf/download/installation-instructions-acoustaffix-surface-mount-ceiling-panels.pdf 2. The screws should not go into the rug, but be secured into the substrate your screwing them into. 3. You can use a sharp utility knife, but please read section 2.2 "edges" in the installation guide before you cut the panels. 4. We do not have anything that is direct apply that will provide this high of an NRC value (.75) as this is typically used in light commercial settings.
