We do not recommend installing our Aspect tiles on a working surface, such as a floor or counter top application. Aspect tiles can be installed over most structurally sound substrates if they are clean, flat, smooth, dry, and free of dust, wax, soap scum and grease. Acceptable substrates are drywall, plaster or clean, smooth tile (glazed, porcelain type tile; not porous or textured). Any damaged, loose or uneven areas must be repaired, patched, leveled and primed. Fill cracks and irregularities with wallboard compound or spackling, then sand smooth with fine grade sandpaper. If installing Aspect over existing ceramic tile, be sure to thoroughly clean old tiles, but priming ceramic tiles is not required. Use isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol two-cloth cleaning method as surface preparation when applying tiles to a nonporous substrate, such as ceramic tile or metal. Yes, our tiles would work for your installation but as they are unsealed, natural stone tiles it may benefit you to seal them prior to installing them on your substrate. In addition, you may want to use additional adhesive, in the form of PL Premium by Loctite to ensure adhesion. You can also seal or use clear/similar color caulk around the perimeter of your install to help insure a water tight seal. We do not recommend the panels be used in a shower application. In addition, because the stone is unsealed and natural you may see darkening in the spots where water comes in contact with the tile until the tile dries. This can be solved using either a stone sealer or impregnator prior to installing the panels. Sealing will also preven the tiles will also help prevent staining. If installing Aspect over existing ceramic tile, be sure to thoroughly clean old tiles, but priming ceramic tiles is not required. Failure to properly prepare the substrate may invalidate the warranty. The substrate to which you are applying Aspect tiles must be primed with a fresh coat of latex primer such as Zinsser® or KILZ® (or similar products). Ingredients in “paint & primer in one” products can cause adhesion failure; as such, be sure to use a stand-alone primer. If you do not intend to prepare the wall surface, you can use an additional adhesive in the form of PL Premium by Loctite. You will want to remove any dust or grease before installing the tiles. We recommend either having a freshly primed wall (a latex or oil based primer, avoid using paint and primer in ones as it can negatively react to the adhesive) or use additional adhesive in the form of PL Premium by Loctite.
