can the center drawer be modified

I am planning to buy this as a regular cabinet to save money.. can the fake drawer blank be removed and a real drawer be built in the the space and does it match the saize of currently sold drawers with this collection
Asked by: Pete
If you don't plan on installing a sink in this, yes, you could put a drawer or two in the center. I'll be installing a free-standing sink, so this will be a no-problem mod.

Can this sink base cabinet be used as a free-standing kitchen island, not fixed to the floor, but seated in the middle of floor without wall support?

Asked by: TAM
The unit is not finished on the ends or the back. In fact the back is open. That being said, unfinished sides are available at Home Depot as is 1/4 inch oak veneer plywood that can be used to dress up the rear. The unit will have to be anchored to the floor with treated wood blocking.

Does it come with a counter top?

I don't want to spend a lot on a counter top. Does this have a top, or is it open? Just planning on using this in a laundry room for storage.
Asked by: Liz
No, it does not come with a top, it is open. You could put a piece of wood on top or buy a low cost top, a 4 footer can be purchased for around 50 bucks.

Customer Reviews

Assembled 60x34.5x24 in. Sink Base Kitchen Cabinet in Unfinished Oak is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 132.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from This sow's ear can be made into a silk purse First, thanks to the reviewer who recommended reinforcing the floor of this base cabinet! The floor is so thin it really needs a few 2x4's under it, and the effort really pays off! I can stand in it now. The back is also incredibly thin, almost cardboard, but it makes drilling the holes for plumbing that much easier. The main feature is the solid oak face frame and doors; these are pretty good quality for the price and they accept stain well. The laminate they sell at HD for the ends of the cabinets is too thin; the face frame still extends beyond one laminated sheet. As long as I was buying this on sale I picked up extra laminate and doubled it up... it uses extra contact cement but it brings the sides out to match the face frame better. In summary if you can find it on 20% discount and you have more free time than money, this product can be brought up to a reasonable standard for use as a kitchenette... I don't think I would use it for a daily high use kitchen. It is stapled together and the drawer bottoms are thin, but other than that it's a decent value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fulfills Basic Needs If you are not picky about high quality stuff, and need something to replace absolute junk, this will work for you. I replaced a complete piece of junk, under the sink base cabinet, that didn't even have a backside to it...it was placed up against the bare wall. So, adding this under sink cabinet to what was much less than what this is, is an upgrade for me. The price made it affordable. I did have to drill a large hole in the back of the cabinet to accommodate the water pipes. The two little drawers are cute and nice to have. I am female, and didn't have any problem getting this out of my truck and into the house. I'll post a before and after picture to give you a better idea what it may look like. Would probably give 4.5 stars if able.

Home Depot Review: This Cabinet was fine for an Entertainment Center I built. I used it along with two 30 inch base cabinets on the side. The quality isn't the best but I really didn't care as I painted everything with a foam roller semi-gloss white. One of the drawers was not put in properly at the factory and I had to use a Dremel tool to cut the rails off and re-attach them with screws. Not a huge deal but you get what you pay for. Biggest reason I went with this cabinet is because there is no center slat in the center of the 30 inch doors. I wanted to shove all the kid toys in there and that makes it easier. Dress it up with paint and hardware and it looks very nice. If you were going to stain and seal the cabinet you better plan on lots of sanding. The doors and drawers aren't the smoothest.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My first attempt at installing cabinets This was my first try at remodeling my kitchen. This kitchen sink base was very easy to install. My sister helped me.I have now sold this home in Mississippi and have moved to Ga. and have already bought another home and getting ready to install the same kind of cabinets in this one. I would recommend this cabinets to anyone trying their hand at first time remodeling .They stain and paint great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fulfilled my kitchen need Good cabinet for the price. I did not expect the best craftmanship for the price. I used 7 of these unfinished cabinets in various sizes to create the kitchen island I wanted. I cautiously & deliberately screwed the cabinets together with no issues. I painted and waxed the cabinets & am very pleased with how they turned out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for We were looking to put this cabinet into a rental and were shopping price rather than quality. What you are paying for here is the very nice oak front frame and doors which we stained a golden oak. The rest of the cabinet is really cheaply thrown together. There are no shelves and everything is stapled together and some misalignment happens. But I figured on doing some work anyway to strengthen and improve the cabinet here and there. The two drawers are tiny and not very deep. I had to secure the back of the drawer slides as they were simply poked through the thin back panel with plastic retaining clips. But all-in-all this will look great when installed with a nice tile top.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's worth every penny I read all the reviews on this before I purchased I am remodeling my kitchen and I absolutely love it. Because it's not solid wood on the "floor part" I put (and you should too) 3/4 inch plywood on the bottom so the bottom wont warp or cause any problems if it gets wet this will definately improve the longevity of the cabnet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not to bad Bought this cabinet to add more cabinet space to our kitchen. Not the best construction but if your handy this can be made stronger by using L-brackets in all the corners. The plastic ones are cheep. I also enforced the bottom of the cabinet with 2X4's to make it stronger for heavier items so there will be no warping. Over all not bad for the buck, like i said if you are handy it only takes alittle tweeking to make it right. Since it was some what falling apart i asked the manager for a discount and she gave one.
