Asked by ProRepairs April 3, 2021

Hello, It sounds like you have a double-cylinder deadbolt. August locks are only compatible with single-cylinder deadbolts and so are not compatible with your current lock type. Please let us know if you have further questions. Thanks, August Home

Is this model the 2nd, 3rd or 4th generation?

Asked by Junebug60 April 3, 2021

It’s a 4 generation lock

Asked by Jc February 8, 2021

It is more about the brand of lock than style This August LOCK web page will help you out. https://support.august.com/deadbolt-compatibility-list-rkzJDLyR_G

Does this come with DoorSense or is that sold separately?

What happens as far as getting into home if power goes out at home. Does it automatically unlock

Asked by Jazbell April 17, 2020

No, it doesn't automatically unlock. The August lock connects directly to a deadbolt. Hence, you can use the deadbolt key to unlock the lock. The August lock has batteries within and if they fail you'll need to use a key. If your home wi-fi is out or your home is out of power you'll lose the Connect feature.

Do you need wifi to use this.

Asked by Mikhop January 21, 2020

Yes, you need a wifi to use this.

Does this work with home security/xfinity services? what generation is this model?

Asked by guadalupe November 28, 2019

Yes it works with Xfinity home , the main reason I brought this was because my kids always forget their key and often leave the door unlock. I’ve added them all as users , problem solved. It also loaded the August app on my Apple Watch, and I can ask Siri to lock or unlock the door. Very pleased with this purchase.

Asked by nkp August 28, 2019

Hello nkp. Yes, the August app can manage multiple August locks. 2 things to note: The August Smart Lock replaces your deadbolt, not a locking lever or doorknob. Are you looking to install two locks that replace deadbolts? Also, the Connect WiFi bridge is what allows the locks to be managed remotely, via WiFi. In order to manage both August Smart Locks remotely, each one would need to be connected to an August Connect/WiFi Bridge, meaning you would need two Connects. The product above comes with the WiFi bridge, so if you purchased 2 units, you would have 2 locks and 2 connects. Thanks!

Can multiple units be installed (other doors in home) and have same app for auto open

Asked by lawdom July 13, 2019

Absolutely. Just turn the big, round silver "knob". I don't believe my wife even knows the app exists and she locks the door all of the time.

Look cool but fails in features
I think after a year should be sufficient for review. First this lock drains battery like its water and the battery is not cheap either 2 AAAA. it constantly loses wifi signals and gives false alarms that your door is unlocked or unlocked in the middle of the night. Very disturbing and not so smart of a device. Second none of my other devices are losing wifi connection but this $200 lock can’t keep its connection. Their quick answer to remedy is to reboot why don’t you all apply a firmware the return value of this lock is not even present when i have to cough up $10 every 3-4 months to power up this lock. Accessing this lock via internet does not work either so bluetooth is your best option. Customer support is non existent they keep directing you to articles thats not even the product. This product only looks good but fails miserably to deliver what it advertises.

This lock allows my wife and I to monitor and operate our front door lock via our smart phones. Packaging was professional, secure and everything was neatly presented. Install was super easy. All installation instructions are in the app (which is a great app btw). It provided photos and videos of each step making installation easier than fumbling around bulky papers. The lock works as advertised, no issues at all. I am able to lock/unlock the front door via Bluetooth when at home, or remotely via a bridge with the Wi-Fi (provided). The only issue was during set up the bridge stated via the application that an error occurred during setup, but it actually worked. This happened on my phone and my wife's phone, however there was no error and everything works properly. The only con would be the locking mechanism is rather bulky, however that is being pretty picky, cause it isn't that bad when you get used to the look of it. We also have the August doorbell camera which works great with this lock so we can see who is at the door before letting them in.

This is the August Smart Lock Pro, 3rd Generation. Installation was a snap: 15 minutes for the lock itself, another 5 minutes for the lock sensor, and 5 more for the WiFi bridge. It all starts with downloading the August app. For me, this was via Apple devices. I was successful with both an iPhone 7 and iPad Air2. During setup, you will provide 3 things: First, a photo of yourself (when you invite others, they’ll see that photo to understand what they’re receiving), Second, a text-capable cell phone number, and third, an email address. Both the text and the email will be verified with a 6-digit code before you can proceed with setting up the August. The App Store shows one of the features as being able to see your guest before granting them access- that is NOT this model. What this model DOES offer is a discreet way to augment your existing deadbolt. The app contains videos and step by step instructions. I tried going through the install on my iPad, but there were steps that were not formatted well for an iPad, so I switched to my iPhone 7. Later, the iPad recognized the lock just fine, so I can use both devices with this lock. Note: NOT for door locks that have an integrated handle/faceplate/deadbolt in one rectangular or oval mechanism. This only works with cylindrical deadbolt door locks that are separate from your door handle. Directions are styled for locks that have a thumb set on the inside- that is, a lever you flip to lock your deadbolt, as opposed to needing a key from the inside. Either thumb set or keyed should work, though. Step 5 of the online directions was the only potentially confusing part: you need to choose which of 3 adapters to apply to your lock’s torque shaft. Most home locks are either Schlage or Quickset, but if you select the choice “other/I don’t know” it has a helpful guide so that you can pick the right one. The lock mechanism itself was a simple 11-step process that needed only a screwdriver. It took me 15 minutes, including notes for this review. There’s a second installation process to attach the “DoorSense” - this is a sensor that gives the Smart Lock Pro confirmation that the door is either locked or unlocked. A third device, The August Connect, is included in the box, but isn’t initially explained in the installation videos. August explains that the Connect enables Smart Alerts and remote management when you’re not within BlueTooth range of your door: Smart Alerts include manual lock events, user specific lock operations, notifications for when a door is left open, and Auto-Lock notifications. From the Apple App Store, one review of the August app incorrectly stated this was not compatible with Apple home kit. I was easily able to add it to my Apple Home Kit. Two notes: you must allow Apple access as the very first screen that appears when you first open the app. And secondly, you add it to your home kit by scanning a small house symbol printed on the back of the “let’s get started” card included in the box. (Shown with a photo and resulting screenshot below).

This is a good addition to your smart home, but with a few tweaks, it could have been great. Auto-Lock is Just Bad--- My first concern was with the auto-lock feature. I figured that the lock would sense when your cell phone had left the home radius and then autolock after awhile. However, the autolock feature simply does not care if you have your cell phone on you or not. It will lock after a certain time period has passed no matter what. If you step out of your house to do yard work or to walk the dog and do not take your phone or keys, it will autolock anyways. This leaves you vulnerable to locking yourself out of the house. I just had to disable this feature all together. App is Slow to Connect-- The other thing I thought could be improved on was how long it took for the app to talk to the lock. It is a bit slow which can be frustrating sometimes. Since this is a deadbolt, it must be locked from the outside of your door with keys or with the app. I wish there was a quicker way to engage it when I am in a hurry in the morning. Auto-Unlock is Very Convenient--- One nice thing is that once you enter your home radius (about 15 feet), your deadbolt will unlock automatically for easy entry. This works through bluetooth. It seems to work consistently and I haven't had any problems with it failing to unlock for me. Control Your Lock While You Are Away--- Another great feature is the ability to lock your doors while you are away. If you've ever wondered if you've forgotten to lock your door or not, you can easily pull up the app and make sure that it is locked. You will also be able to let people in remotely as well. You will only have this function if you buy this package that includes the wifi bridge. If you don't buy the bridge, then you won't be able to access your lock remotely. I 100% recommend getting this package that includes the bridge. Locks Door with Alexa--- This smart lock also connects well with Alexa. You can ask Alexa to lock your door and she will lock it very quickly for you. Alexa will NOT unlock your door. That is for security purposes so thieves could not yell into your house to gain access. Overall, it works pretty well and I would recommend it. Just be sure that you have a pretty standard deadbolt lock such as Kwikset. It may not be compatible with super old deadbolts or unusual off-brands.

I never knew that I needed a smart lock until I had one! The August Smart Lock Pro + Connect is a feature-packed smart lock that is compatible with many deadbolts on the market today. As with most smart products, there are no instructions in the box, instead an insert directs you to install the August app on your smart phone for installation instructions. Once the app was installed and an August account was created, my step-by-step visual installation guide began. Installation of the smart lock was a breeze! This lock utilizes the parts of your deadbolt that are inside the door and on the exterior of your house, and you are replacing the thumb turn portion of the lock (the part inside your house). You remove the indoors part of your deadbolt and replace it with a metal plate included in the box, slip an adapter on based on the type of deadbolt you have (there are 3 different adapters included that you choose from), and attach the new smart mechanism to the metal plate. Once the hardware is installed, you need to install the magnetic door sensor. There are 2 options for this - the first option is to use 2 screws to attach it to your doorframe; the second option is to drill a hold in the inside of your doorframe for a sleeker look. I chose option 2, and it is working great. This sensor tells the deadbolt and your phone whether your door is open or closed. Once the sensor is installed, the smartphone app walks you through a calibration process that involves opening and closing your door a few times. Also included in the box is a wifi hub that allows you to connect remotely to your deadbolt from outside your home network. This is useful for letting people into your house when you are away. The wifi hub simply plugs into an outlet, preferably one that is within 10' of the deadbolt. Once these 3 items are installed, you're all set! The whole process took about 20 minutes to complete. Functionality of this smart lock is great. Not only can you lock and unlock your door from your phone, but you can also use voice commands with Alexa to lock, unlock, and check the status of your door. This is useful if you are in the middle of a project or in the basement and you need to let someone into your house. One of my favorite features, however, is the geofencing option you can set up inside the mobile app. The app uses your phone's gps location to determine when you leave your home or return home. You can set the lock to automatically lock when you leave, and automatically unlock when you come home. This is very useful when you are coming home with full hands and don't want to be fumbling with keys to try to get into your house. Another function you can set up is auto-lock. The lock can detect when you open the door and then close the door, automatically locking it behind you - either immediately or on a timed delay. Overall, this lock is very feature-rich. It's a very welcome edition to my smart home setup, and an addition I would recommend to anyone looking to take the next steps to turning their home into a smart home!
