I followed the prep instructions exactly as they were laid out. The tub was smoother than a baby's bottom. Came out like I used an orange to sponge it on.
First the tools that come with the kit are the worst quality I've ever seen. The sponge roller, used to apply the rough coating to the bottom, kept coming off the roller. I had to keep sliding it back on and try to smooth out the lines of paint/grit it left as it was coming off.
The roller used to apply the paint to the rest of the tub was just as bad. The stupid thing was coming apart as I used it. I had to pick big pieces of sponge off the wet paint. You can see where I did that. The rest of the time the brush was leaving small pieces of sponge in different places. Almost like it wasn't sanded right....but I know I did.
It's supposed to smooth out as it dries so I wasn't terribly worried when it had the orange peel texture. However it never smoothed out and in fact though I was extremely careful not to leave any drips, there it seemed to pool a little while it was settling and created small 1/4 inch drips. Almost tiny "sags". I bought two kits so I'm going to sand this out a little and try to apply a second coat with quality tools from a paint store. I'm not holding out much hope. Most likely will have to buy a new tub -- my original plan. I would return the second kit but it's past the 90 day warranty. I'm disgusted by the entire process. I wore a heavy duty 3m breathing filter but the fumes could easily overtake you with anything less. It smelled like an auto body shop in my entire house for a day.

This is a great product and an attractive alternative to replacing a tub! Facing the possible removal of a harvest gold, cast iron tub in our bathroom remodel project, I began considering refinishing the tub. After reading some of the online reviews about color variations and unevenness of the some of the products, I was somewhat skeptical. After researching, reading reviews and watching videos of the process, I decided to go with the BathWorks product. I remained skeptical about the results using a roll-on product. It just seemed like it needed to be sprayed to get even coverage. However, if the process is carefully followed, you will be very pleased with the results. The key is precisely following the preparation steps and keeping the roller fully loaded with the product during application. (I actually had enough product to refinish a sink as well.) I used high intensity lighting to aid in detection and limiting any sign of lap marks. I applied the non-slip surface to the bottom of the tub. Since there is a 3-hour window for application, I saw no need to hurry and allowed the non-slip surface to dry for 20 minutes --an additional 10 minutes. I had no issues with transfer of the non-slip material up the sides when I did the rest of the tub. Proper ventilation is imperative. The fumes are pretty intense during application, but dissipate within a day. If exact color match is important, I recommend getting color chips from the company rather than relying on the online color chart. I initially refinished our tub with bone, but found it to have a slight yellow-green hue against our selected tile color. Since that wasn’t the color I wanted, I contacted BathWorks/Munro Products to see if it was possible to refinish a recently refinished tub. They were extremely helpful and supportive. They truly “get” customer support and were a pleasure to work with. After I received the actual color chips for their product I found the bone color chip to be spot-on to the color I had applied. Again, don’t rely on the online color chart if matching is important. So, based on the provided color chips, I opted to refinish the tub and sink with almond. It is the color we needed and it looks great. Although I only applied the product recently, it appears to be quite durable. I tiled around the tub after it was refinished and cured for a few days. Even though I tried to protect it, I did manage to drop some thinset and grout on the refinished tub. Unfortunately, I didn’t see it until it had dried. However, even after it set up, it didn’t damage the tub surface when carefully removed and cleaned. Although I recommend being more careful than I was, I am optimistic that this is an indicator of the long-term service and durability of the product. I would not hesitate to use it again.

I used another cheaper brand in the past and it did not last over 5 years, with much of those years having a peeling tub. This product is much better and thicker and more of a hard shell coating. It looks great and hopefully will last a long time.

In some ways I want to give parts of this kit a 1-star and other parts a 5-star rating. To be fair, we refinished a 26 year-old shower stall that had seen exposure to lots of rusty well water and other unfavorable conditions. The quantity of resin included in the kit allowed us to apply two coats. The opacity of the resin was excellent and it resisted runs and drips quite well. That doesn't mean we didn't encounter any, but overall the material did very well. I would rate the two-part resin as a 5. The included rollers were junk, unfortunately. Given the very rough condition of our shower stall, the included small amount of sandpaper and primer were pretty much jokes. I spent literally hours with a random orbital sander (150 grit) doing prep for the resin and I used some Rustoleum Self-Etching primer. The "open time" of the resin is quite long so there's no need to rush in applying it. The downside is that the resin stayed tacky for a number of hours...but I'd rather have the longer open time than a quick-dry situation. Pros would probably dislike the lengthy curing/drying time of the resin but as a "Professional Homeowner" I really liked it. BTW, the resin surface of shower stall is now quite hard and we are ready to reinstall the glass surround. The resin was applied about 2-3 weeks ago. Only time will tell us how durable the new coating is. From what I've seen so far, I'm somewhat optimistic. Also, given the current prices of shower stalls, this kit seems to represent pretty good value. I'd do it again.
