Easy to use
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First time that we owned a meat thermometer and we didn't understand why we did not have one before. We have a 4- probe wireless meat thermometer with a remote and it is great. At first glance it looks like they will be hard to operate but the menu/ options are very user friendly, you can select the kind of meat you are going to cook (beef, chicken, burger, pork, fish) and the taste you want (well done, medium well…). The alarm that will sound when the meat is ready. We used it to cook very thick meat for burgers and their taste was perfect. Very handy tool.

I used this BBQ Dragon Wireless Meat Thermometer on a recent pork loin cooked in my oven and it can also be used in any charcoal or gas grill, smoker. Four AA batteries (not included) are required for this to work. The digital readings are clear and accurate and has 4 channels allowing up to 4 different meats at the same time, but I only used it for one piece this time. Each piece will be perfectly cooked and eliminates the guess work. The probes are ideal size and the L Braided steal lead (cord) is sufficient, being 49” long. Since I was cooking a pork loin, I chose the manual setting to monitor by temperature. If I had been cooking a different piece of meat, I could have chosen the type of meat, and the doneness, ie; rare, medium-rare, etc. The readings were accurate and we enjoyed a perfectly cooked pork loin. I will definitely be using this for my grill and the oven so I can enjoy a perfectly cooked piece of meat every time. The options for cooking allow me to make it as simple or complicated as I want, depending on what I’m cooking. This thermometer removes all the guess work and disappointment from meat being either under-cooked or over-cooked. In one of my photos, the transmitter and receiver readings don’t match because the transmitter was set for Fahrenheit and the receiver to Celsius which was my learning curve.

The BBQ DRAGON 2-PIECE WIRELESS MEAT THERMOMETER WITH REMOTE, 4 HIGH TEMPERATURE PROBES, is a useful piece of equipment for cooks, either in the kitchen or out at the grill. With four probes, you can easily measure the actual temperature of four different items at the same time. The probes are generously long, allowing you to get the probe deep enough to give a meaningful reading. The probe wires are quite long, allowing them to be easily placed where you need them in either the oven or on the grill. The remote has preset temperature settings for different types of meats, beef, veal, chicken, pork, seafood and burgers. They may not be completely accurate since the set temperature for medium well for pork was about thirty degrees higher than what the recipe called for in cooking a pork loin. So, the user should ensure they are getting the right temperature so as not to over cook their meat. Finally, I also used one ot the probes to check the temperature in my oven. There was a slight delay in getting an accurate reading comparing the temperature according to the oven thermostat vs. the digital read out. But, this shouldn't affect monitoring internal termperature in meat.

I am really impressed with my new BBQ Dragon 2-Piece Wireless Meat Thermometer and Remote. The unit provides 8 pre-set meat types and 5 USDA-approved safe temperatures, but I prefer to fully program the temperature of each probe when smoking various meats. It is super simple to program the temperature for each of the four channels, this give you complete temperature control. The remote unit on thermometer that this BBQ Dragon replaced would often loose connection with the base unit; the BBQ Dragon seems to have a very strong signal because the base unit was outside on the smoker and I could move all over inside my house and it never lost the signal. The display on both units are easy to read and provide both the actual and the set temperatures. Each unit uses 2-AAA batteries. The only thing that I missed from my old thermometer is a low temperature alarm; this comes in handy should something cause the temperature of the smoker go below a desired set-point. I would definitely recommend the BBQ Dragon 2-Piece Wireless Meat Thermometer with Remote.

This is a very handy tool to have if you run a large smoker and smoke multiple meats at a time. I have two smokers currently. One is electric and smaller so this will be good for that. But what will be great is when I use it in my big wood charcoal smoker. Then it will be fantastic and fully utilized. I can foresee using this when I have brisket, chicken, ribs etc being done all at the same time. If you are going to trouble of doing smoked meats, you tend to do a lot of them all at once to make it worth your while. With this thermometer, you can do just that! You won't have to open the door or lid and poke your meats anymore! Each of the thermometer probes (6") comes with a fairly long string (49"), so you can have an array of meat on the racks and then have it just outside the unit to check the temps. It comes with its own kick stand and clip for easy using. Plus it comes with a remote thermometer too! That way you can relax and watch (not by watching) your meat cook by temperature and never leave your easy chair...at up to almost 500ft. ! Love that! It also has a timer function. This is good for when you are cooking smoked salmon and use time instead of temperature to gauge smoke instead of doneness. Additionally, there are probe clips, but unlikely to use those. It runs on two sets of 2 AAA batteries in each unit and can read in F/C. Personally, I am keeping the box and taking out the batteries after each use to prolong the life of this unit. This might be a gadget, but for a person who likes to cook...it is one that is needed.

To date, the performance of this BBQ Dragon wireless meat thermometer with remote and four high-temperature probes has been flawless. This is an Indoor/Outdoor device, but currently, I am only using it indoors until outdoor BBQ weather returns. The Dragon meat thermometer works well in the kitchen to monitor temperature of the meat we are cooking in the oven, countertop roaster, or both simultaneously since the unit comes with four temperature probes and associated timers. I really appreciated the fact you may select level of doneness from five options ranging from rare to well done. My wife prefers "shoe leather" or "Well Done" and I like "Medium". With these temperature options programmed into the unit there is no need for me to refer to my USDA temperature doneness "cheat sheet" I keep posted in the kitchen. The tool also has a manual entry for any time and temperature entry you would like to make for a given piece of meat or fish. A real plus is the remote which allows me to continue my activity away from the outdoor BBQ, oven, or countertop roaster and still hear the beeper when the desired meat temperature is reached. My wife and I discovered meat thermometers about 30-years ago and never again had a piece of dried out and tasteless cut of meat or fish. This Dragon thermometer now allows us to continuously monitor the meat/fish being cooked without lifting the lid of the BBQ grill, opening the oven door, or lid of the roaster and losing a large amount of heat, thus extending the cooking time. See attached photographs. Well done BBQ Dragon.

Will this work as a meat thermometer? Yes, are there simpler solutions out there? Absolutely. With that said, this is helpful for smoking multiple slabs of meat at once- now you know when each one is done instead of having to open the door and move the probe. The thermometers were all within 4 degrees Fahrenheit of each other when I tested them in boiling water (see photo). Also, the plastic housing, especially the battery compartment doors feel “cheap”; I have concerns about the tabs snapping off.

The transmitter and the receiver each have some nice features The transmitter has a built-in stand that can either stand upright or at a bit of an angle. The receiver has a belt clip which also has a feature allowing it to double as a stand up unit. I like that it also has a timer on the receiver in addition to the 4 temperature read outs. The four included probes appear to be of good quality and fairly heavy duty. The probe shelf seems like a nice addition that will keep the probe from laying on the grates, but I couldn’t get it to work.

The unit came very quickly. It was packed well and is not damaged. The instructions are adequate and cover everything well. It works well to be able to monitor up to 4 items on the grill and even can warn you when each one is done. With the cold weather now I am impressed that the unit can properly monitor things even with the grill cover open. I am definitely impressed.

Finally a decent remote system. It uses AAA batteries - others I've used use watch batteries and always seem to be low on power. The probes are dead accurate at high temp (212 for boiling water at sea level), but seem a little off in an ice bath. The receiver has a back light and lots of options for alarms. The signal stayed strong between the units with at least 3 room separation.
