Questions & Answers

can this barn paint be used on metal front door

Asked by: caro
I assume your talking about a standard main entry door, for residential use... With that said, I don't see why you couldn't. Has the door been previously painted? If so, I wouldn't apply this paint over a gloss finish, latex paint or on any oil paint, without priming first. I would use the current paint type primer to transition to this oil-latex blend. This paint doesn't bond well to unprepared metal, either, such as plain metal roofing for example. If there is oil paint currently on the door, then I would highly suggest using an oil primer to aid in the hold of this paint. So, yes it can. I would just make sure you prepare any previously painted door. Keep in mind, this is an oil-latex blend, so in the event it needs to be repainted, you might not want to put latex paint over this without using an oil primer first. Other than that, for a main entry door, and the fact everyone will be close to it, I would apply thinner coats rather than 1 heavy coat. It will most likely come out more pleasing...

Does the shade "barn white" appear bright white or more of an ivory shade?

My picket fence is still bright white several months after painting. I did use an oil base primer/sealer first over aged raw cedar to prevent color bleed through that would yellow it.

The barn I am painting is currently a medium olive green. The areas I rolled did need two coats for full coverage (almost making it in one coat.) Some smaller areas where I am able to brush it on, it is covering in one coat. It is a very deep dark red. Looks rich. Nice contrast with the green pastures. Really good value. Easy soap & water clean up.

I needed to paint the new oak board pasture fence at my home and wanted an economical paint to use. This was the least expensive and it covers like it is twice the price. Very happy with the consistency of the paint and I used a Graco 360VSP sprayer without having to dilute or thin the paint. Perfect paint for the project!

I primed my fence before I had bought this (can says no need too) and 2 coats will cover. Well with the primer as well as 2 coats you could still see some of the Marks on the wood. Dont waste your money. I returned and bought regular behr exterior

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product for the price I used 17 gallons of this to paint a 120 + year old barn that was in really bad shape. I put it and the primer on with a low end airless sprayer and backrolled. I was very happy with the results. It sprayed well, dryed quickly and was easy to clean up with soap and water. It rained about 4 hours after applying it and there weren't any negative results. They call this a "flat" paint, but i would consider it an eggshell or satin. If definitely has some gloss to it, which is good. It definitley is not flat like your basic primer. This type of paint, an acrylic, came recommended by a professional painter friend. It has the best qualities of an oil based paint and a latex paint. I was originally going to use an oil based paint since that is what was on there orinially but he recommend good quality primer and an acrylic paint. I am glad I used this product and the price is very affordable for what I received.
