Questions & Answers

Is it sticky when it dries? I am going to stain redwood deck furniture.

Asked by: Frankie
When dried, not sticky at all. I stained my wooden benches and they look beautiful. Just make sure you stir this real good. Sometimes I had to stir occasionally while I was painting to keep the product from settling to bottom of can. Overall I think you would be well pleased.

How many 8 foot sections can you do with a gallon?

need to get a estimate on how much it will cost.
Asked by: tx25jay
I painted 2 sections and I had plenty left to do a swingset in its entirety...

I just built a new picnic table with pressure treated wood. Do I need to wait some time before I use this stain on the wood, or can I stain it now?

Asked by: GatorG
Go for it, do spray the stain on, much faster and easier to clean up.

Is this thick like a paint stain or runny?

Asked by: ginny
It's NOT stick at all but as you're using the paint it becomes a little more ticker. As for the running part, as long as you don't exceeds the amount of paint in the brush you are okay!

Do not use a roller to apply, you need to brush it on. It drips bad and does not cover as it should over previously stained wood!!! I will use it as a primer for other projects.

I did two coats which turned out quite beautifully. The coverage is perfect and the durability seems good. It dries quickly, in about an hour, and seems fully cured for use after a day. I used 2 gallons to cover a large deck, about 300-500 sq ft. I'd say it's more like a thinner paint, and the finish appears to be solid, like a paint, as opposed to transparent like a stain. This is perfect for reapplying over existing finishes, since it covers the old stuff. Water cleanup makes this very easy to work with, and mistakes/drips are easy to fix. Overall, given the price, this is the best value product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value for a general purpose REDWOOD stain I had to cover a weathered shed that had a previous stain coating. As I looked at the reviews on this, I decided to give it a try. When you open the container, the stain looks decided redder than a redwood would be, and it is red when applied, but it dries to nice brownish red redwood tint. See my enclosed photo where the wood on the left is dried finish, the wood in the middle is as applied, and the unstained wood is on the right. Coverage was as I expected. My wood soaked in the stain, and some extra coats were needed. It applies like oil, but cleared up the brushes like latex. Good stuff.

All you have to do is use a jiffy mixer every 30 min's or so to keep it suspended, and paint. As long as your surface is well prepped, it goes on fast and dries fairly quickly. Even covers dried and weathered boards decent. That is what I like. I have a small patio/entranceway that takes a bad beating every year. This stuff is cheap enough and so easy to use I can afford to paint it once a year to keep it looking nice.

For the price (less than $9.00/gallon) this gives excellent penetration and good coverage with 2 - 3 coats. I painted an entire barn with it and it has been protecting and holding up well for 2 years thus far. Since it is so inexpensive it makes a great primer stain on raw wood for a later coat with a more expensive solid stain.

Bought about 30 cans of this stain, 10 of the 30 were different in texture went on very light, and the others were all dark. Ended up mixing the lighter cans with the darker to try to get an even mix, time I wasn't expecting to waste. overall I like the color, just wish the consistency would of been the same from can to can.

I used a medium quality brush and paint adhered well to the bristles. It covered well on T 111 siding which is very rough and took 2 applications to fill in all the nooks on that moon like surface. At $10.00 , its a great paint !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to apply & looks amazing! We needed to give our worn out deck a facelift, before we have company coming over in a couple of weeks (no time to redo a whole deck). So we bought Behr stain for a quick fix. I forgot to take a before picture but after we stained it...it looked really good! It was like a dramatic before and after.
