Hi Ken, thank you for writing in. I'm sorry to hear that your project is still tacky. Although it is hard to pinpoint the cause exactly, I recommend increasing the ventilation. Hi Nikki - Thank you for your question. This product can be applied to tile backsplashes. If the tile is glazed, we recommend priming the surface with our Bonding Primer before painting to ensure the best adhesion (Nikki). Good luck with your project! - Sara

What’s the best way to remove this, if it’s dried on hardwood floor?

Asked by Doug July 14, 2021

Answer

Hi Doug - Thank you for your question. Our Urethane Alkyd Enamel can be removed with a paint stripper or it can be lightly sanded off. We also suggest reaching out to your local Home Depot for recommendations on an overspray remover that is safe to use on your hardwood floors. Best - Sara

I’m the original poster of this question. As Behr answered below, this cannot be tinted to any color because it’s a separate product. When I called the store, the first guy said I could tint it. When I went in to purchase the product, I was not able to and he even called the rep to double check. So this product is only available in the “white” base. At least from what I’ve been told…

Used this paint on wooden dresser. Do I need to put a topcoat on it to seal it? Polycrylic? Or something else?

Asked by Amanda June 25, 2021

Hi Amanda - Thanks for your question! Our Urethane Alkyd Enamel doesn't require a separate topcoat as it will dry to a super durable finish on it's own. If you prefer some added protection, a water-based clear coat can be applied on top. Best - Sara

Hi Anthony - Thank you for your question! We don't recommend applying our Urethane Alkyd Enamel to a galvannealed roof. We currently don't have another product we can recommend for a galvannealed trailer roof, but you may want to reach out to your local Home Depot for some suggestions on a similar finish that would work for your project. Great paint for kitchen cabinets. I’ve done a few friends cabinets for them and it goes on quick and looks great!

Great Product
I have quite a bit of experience with coatings in Aerospace and Automotive Finishing Industry. As mentioned before, proper preparation of the substrate is of utmost importance. If overcoating a previous paint, know what what type of coating is there. Compatibility of coatings is important. Humidity and temperature is also very important. If humidity is too high, water based paints will not dry. As for the paint itself, it is excellent and has great adhesion. Even in stained wooden surfaces. I used it on a new desk project to get a whitewash effect and was extremely satisfied. I see why it works well for cabinets and furniture.

Not for Exterior Use!
Really, really disappointed in this paint. It says for interior/exterior use. I used to refinish some exterior wood shutters, and after less than 1 year, the paint is cracking and flaking off on all of them. Extremely frustrating that I'll have to paint all of these shutters again. Do not use this paint on anything exterior! I used the same can to paint some interior drawers, and those are doing okay for now.

Hello CTRemodel, thank you for your review. I'm so sorry the paint is cracking and flaking on your exterior shutters. I recommend removing any loose coating, cleaning the surface and letting it dry, spot priming any bare wood with our Multi-Surface Stain-Blocking Primer & Sealer No. 436, then touching up and recoating with the paint. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please feel free to reach out to our Customer Care team directly for further assistance with this. Our team is happy to help you! -Joni Behr

This paint is the toughest and most chip resistant option for kitchen cupboards. It can be tinted to any Behr color. I always sand and prime (2 coats) then top with this urethane alkyd paint (2 coats). It takes longer to dry between coats - but worth it. It's harder to clean off of hands and brushes - but worth it. Provides an exceptional finish and outstanding protection. This is a Hybrid paint. It works by having an oil molecule surrounded by water molecules which carry the pigment. As the water evaporates, it leaves behind the oil and a lustrous, durable finish. (D.I.Y. Painting Tips: The absolute best paint for cabinets in 2021)

Extremely dissapointed with this paint. Benjamin Moore Advance is way better!
I bought this paint because it was recommended by a Home Depot employee. I told him that I was wanting to spray the paint with a paint gun and he assured me this would be the perfect fit. It wasn’t. I tried several different paint guns, airless and air supplied, only to discover this paint is NOT meant to be sprayed. I then tried several different brushes and rollers only to receive lackluster results. The coverage on it is good but it didn’t self level like the product claims to. Brush marks were easily visible and dimpling/orange peel happened even with rollers whether foam or fiber. Also, you may notice that even a week after drying that this paint will still not have fully hardened. I eventually bought Benjamin Moore Advance to replace it and had FAR BETTER results with a foam roller. It cost about $55/gal which is a good bit more than this Behr paint but the extra money was without a doubt worth saving further headaches. In hindsight, it’s my own fault. I should have done my own research before trusting the HD employee.

Just what you need
Stop your search and buy this paint if youre looking to paint your cabinets. As someone else noted, painting is mostly prep, and when it comes to cabinets, you want to prep well. A lot of people complained its too thin, that it pulls when brushed over, or that it took 4-5 coats to cover. You need to know how to use an enamel paint. I only needed 2-3 coats in most areas and I used a clear primer. The finish looks excellent on the semi gloss and seems to be quite hard!
