1 qt. Gloss Clear Water-Based Interior/Exterior Spar Urethane Wood Sealer

Used it to cover over a wooden picnic table that had been stained, but was “bleeding” color when sitting on it or touching it. I put in 3 coats, it worked as described and now I get to use my picnic table again. It beads the water away and it easy to clean. The sealer is shiny, which I didn’t consider when I purchased it. So be aware.

Overall I like the look and feel of this product. It is easy to apply, goes on nice and smooth with out much effort. Being water based it makes the clean up easy as well. When you first open it, it has a milky look but goes on clear. It is a little thick but still spreads easily. It drys fairly quickly as well and has a slight glossy look when dry. I only used 1 coat so we will see how durable it is, but so far I'm happy with the product.

There are great advantages to these water-based urethane spar varnishes that include low odor, few, if any, harmful vapors (read the label) and water clean-up. Don't be put off by the milky color of the product in the can. It dries completely clear. Three coats are recommended but that probably depends on the conditions and the use that the surface is going to be exposed to. If outside and exposed to rain or sun, I’d think three coats would be the minimum you would want to apply to your project. If inside and using it on bare wood, again a minimum of three coats would be best to completely seal the project and get the gloss finish you want from the project. I’d suggest letting the product dry at least overnight or a full day and then giving the product a light sanding with a very fine sandpaper between coats (required if using this on bare wood) and then a wipe down with a tack rag. I’d think the best results would be had by repeating this at least two more times. It’s nice to be able to clean up with water and not mineral spirits, etc. I hope you find this helpful.

This stuff works great. You can use on interior woodwork to protect it from scratches and dirty hands, etc. Or use outdoors to protect against sun, rain, sleet and snow. The trick is to apply it lightly, let dry and use twice as many coats as they recommend. It's worth the extra time. It leaves a hard, shiny coat that keeps the wood from the weather, but doesn't hide the grain. I used it on some outdoor columns and they've stood up to the elements for almost 3 years - see photo. It's easy to apply, dries in 1 hour for next coat, and sands easily. In the can it's a milky color, but it goes on clear.

BEHR Gloss Clear Water-Based Interior/Exterior Spar Urethane Wood Sealer is a high quality product that was very easy to use and the clean up was a snap. The workbench was dry to the touch very quickly and the finished surface was exceptional. We applied the urethane with an inexpensive brush and the urethane dried with no brush marks. I was very pleased with the total process and recommend this quality product highly.

This is a great product that mixes easy and brushes on very easy. I wanted to add a protective finish to a front door and used this gloss finish spar urethane. I lightly sanded the original protective coating which was Tung Oil and cleaned off all the debris. Then I brushed on the spar urethane gloss finish. After finishing one coat I am happy with the results & I'll be checking to see how long this will last and if I'll need to add another coat. So far it looks great!

I highly recommend the Behr water based Spar Urethane. I only applied one coat over stain to try to get an idea of how much sheen the product would have. Please see photo. The added bonus of it being water based means really easy clean up(I love that). It did dry to touch in only one hour as indicated on the can. I’m usually not a fan of water based urethane products but I would definitely use this again.

Behr's Spar Urethane is a low odor, indoor/outdoor sealer that, so far, has kept its shine and has resisted scratches. Low odor is nice when working inside so as not to self-fumigate while re-sealing that banister. Three coats are recommended. Being a water cleanup product, I was able to use the same brush for all 3 coats. Just clean it quickly as it does "tack up." For another project, I put a couple coats on to protect a white shelf in the garage that acts as a battery charging station. The 40V battery is fairly heavy and so far, this Spar Urethane has resisted scratches. Workable consistency out of the can and good cleanup on the brush.

How many people has their paint problem under Sunlight, Rain, Moisture and Mildew and forming their exterior wood work faded or graying or corroded the wood. So, even Redwood is most strongest resistant wood of weather, but there still a chance of rotted. Now, Behr introduce a newly Clear Water-Based Spar Urethane for interior and exterior application. Which allow people to have more choice of paint for their job. When open the can there is milky liquid of paint is ready to paint. Of course, it need stir it evenly before you start to paint. Due to it works for both as paint and sealer, so it is much liquid form instead like the urethane paint heavy in high density. For it can easily penertration to the wood fiber. That's why under the instruction the Company suggest you to paint 3-4 layer of paint. I tried this sealer paint with hand brush, the paint flow freely and smooth and there is no sticky feeling when you paint. Only has to wait how good it was when they are dry. But these few day is unstable, so the additional paint has to wait a day or two. Compare to my past experience using Marine Spar Urethane, they are much much expensive and need a certain handling skill is required. Dry time will depend on the weather and temperature. Applying the sealer paint should not too cold or directly under sunshine is not recommended . If you looking for sealer and paint together. Behr is worthy to give it a try.

I have always been pleased with Behr products. Once I figure out which of their many products is best suited to my chore. This product number is "Gloss". 125 square feet per quart per coat. Will take several coats for best durability, and takes several days to fully dry/cure. Cleans with warm soapy water.
