Questions & Answers

Can this white wax be used over a table that has a medium oak finish veneer (not painted). Or should I paint it first?

Asked by: Lisa
Sometimes you can use items not as intended and they still work. I waxed Italian Plaster walls with this stuff in a bathroom. I went through about 8 cans, but this stuff is amazing. I would absolutely try it on veneer! I've found I had to wait overnight or 2 days for the wax to dry to the point that I could then scrape it back off in order to shine it. More shine? More coats. Worked like a dream! And didn't yellow the walls.

What is the coverage area of the 8 oz. can of wax? Doesn't seem like very much. Thanks in advance.

Asked by: Denise
It's basically like a wax you would use to put on your car. Let it dry to touch then start buffing. I put it on my entire piece and then circle back around to where I started and it was ready to buff.

Do you have to apply the wax? I painted my daughter's dresser with the BEHR chalk paint but I didnt know about the wax

Asked by: Jess
Hi Jess, thanks for writing in with your question. The Wax is designed to seal and protect the paint. Although not required, it's a great idea to use it for the best results. Have a great day! -Giovanna

Customer Reviews

BEHR 8 oz. White Interior Chalk Decorative Wax Paint, White Wax is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 161.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stripped off my chalk paint I used this to seal Behr chalk paint as recommended at Home Depot, but as soon as I applied the wax, it started stripping off and creating lines/streaks (from the original finish) in the paint. I used a wax brush. I am frustrated because I let the paint dry for a week+. What did I do wrong here?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Left white residue Painted my dressers with the Behr- Onyx Grey, which I love then applied the wax top coat and it left my dressers with white residue streaks. Why did this happen? I followed the instructions to the tee!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 4 months later and it is still coming off I painted my kitchen table with the Behr chalk paint an then finished with the dark decorative wax finish following all directions. We barely use this table to eat on (thank god) because even in just wiping it with a damp sponge or wet paper towel, it wipes off all the wax. I have reapplied so many times it is crazy and we will be eating Thanksgiving dinner on this table and I am fearful!! What sealer can I use on top??

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only wax I use now I refinish, restore and upcycle furniture for a living. And I'm definitely a wax girl whenever possible, so I've used plenty of wax, all different brands, paste and liquid. Behr clear wax is my absolute favorite over chalk paints. Leaves a smooth and durable finish with just a bit of sheen after buffing. A little goes a long way for sure. You won't be disappointed in this wax

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don’t pay attention to the poor reviews. The people leaving poor reviews are not using the product correctly. #1. Wax shouldn’t really be used on a high traffic surface, like a kitchen table. That requires several coats of a polyurethane or polycrylic. #2 All waxes (or even paints for that matter) need a minimum of 30 days to cure (or fully harden). Wiping, even with water, a freshly waxed surface is just asking for trouble. #3 Waxing isn’t a one and done finish. It should be reapplied every year or so. Bottom line...do a little research before trying out a new product. And BEHR adding just a little more info to the can would be helpful to those people who are new to chalk paint and waxing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Left white spots. Made life difficult Because I love everything else behr i figured I would love this wax. That was not the case. I was working on a commission piece for a customer, my piece was sanded, primed, and beautifully painted. Here comes the wax. Hassle free paint job out the window. After letting the wax dry I came back to find in some areas it was white and in others it was splotchy. Buffed it and still. White spots. This wasn’t the first time or paint job where it has occurred. Super frustrating to have to fix a problem when you’re depending on a good product. Sad to say I won’t be purchasing this wax anymore. Rated 1 out of 5 by from Will not come off easy! Applied the clear wax to a dresser that was painted with Behr Chalk paint. Let it sit till the wax had dried (approx 45 minutes). Plain and simple the wax was a BEHR to get off. After spend 30 minutes on one drawer finally went to the garage and got the orbital polisher I use on the boat. Spent another 2 hours and 8 wool pads to take the wax off. Not at all happy or pleased with the product.

Paired with the summer porch yellow from bears chalk line of paints and stains , this project helped the wife and I make a project look like we pulled it from an old barn or shed, we used some red shop towels to spread the wax around , then went over the high spots with some 220 grit to make the yellow pop in those spots
