Questions & Answers

Exterior House Painting

My home is Hardy Board Siding with concrete block base. I have panted the blocks with DRYLOK Water proofer a few years ago, so my question is can I use this to cover both the siding & blocks?
Asked by: Lem
Hello Lem, Thanks for your interest in Behr paint. Our latex wall paints like Marquee aren't designed to be applied over waterproofers as the sealing properties of those can tend to keep our coatings from adhering. Therefore, it would be best to remove the waterproofer before applying our paint to the concrete and fiber cement which are both okayed for our paint. Well wishes for your project!

would I need some type of sealant or primer if applying the paint to a plywood shed?
Asked by: SJC
Hi SJC, Thanks for writing in! The first coat of Exterior Marquee can be used as the priming coat. However, if the surface is bare plywood, it may be best to use a separate primer (e.g. No. 436 Primer & Sealer) first. This will prevent the paint from soaking into the wood and allow you to get full coverage with less coats. Hope this helps, and good luck on your project! Best, Jeanette P.

Is the paint ready to paint without mixing? Stir only

Asked by: Kc6767
Hello Kc6767, Thank you for your interest in our products. Yes, our paint comes ready to use if purchased online. However, if purchased at the store, than you would first have to select your color so that Home Depot can mix it for you. Best regards, Kevin

The lady that sold it to me said if I purchased this, it would be ONE COAT ... that is why it is so expensive. ($200.00) for 5 gallons. This paint has taken me 4 coats and it still does not look that good ..I may need to do one more coat. I can assure you I will NEVER purchase that paint again. I was painting white over tan and she assured me it would be one coat.

I used this for my Minnesota house when I was fixing it up to sell it. $400,000 house sold in 15 hours for more than I listed it for. This paint went over so well on the listing and sale that I then bought the exact same color and paint for my brand new Florida house. It lasts a long time (I have been in the FL house 4 years) and it looks as good as day 1.

I debated for months on whether or not to purchase the Marquee or the middle of the line Behr exterior paint. I'm glad I spent the extra money on the Marquee. The color ended up being different on the house than on the sample/chip because the house wasn't white - color will change depending on the color you paint over. Even with that difference (a more blue/gray rather than gray), I was still pleased with the color. Paint went on the house very well - I used a power roller (Wagner Side Kick) and that made the actual painting go incredibly fast after all of the prep and trim painting was done. I was suprised that I only needed one coat for excellent coverage. Leaving the lid off the bucket in warmer temps will cause the paint to form skin and thicken, but I didn't want to paint in the heat anyway so that didn't end up being a problem. So far, it has held up beautifully - no cracking, peeling, etc - even where I painted over metal roofing. Great paint.

I had been using Sherwin Williams Duration but, do to unforeseen circumstances, I purchased the BEHR Marquee paint and was astonished. This paint is thick; goes on smooth; flows well; tacks up fast; and is Much Cheaper than the Duration that I had been using. I built a small barn out of the SmartSide paneling from Home Depot and the Marquee paint covered it perfectly in one coat. I realize that it may require two coats in some situations but for me, one was enough. Just like the Duration, this paint looks like a plastic skin was applied to the entire building. I have to admit that I was just blown away by this paint. I had, like many others, been sucked in by the hype that 'professional painters' only use Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore. By a fluke of fate, I learned that BEHR Marquee is just as good, if not better, as those Much Higher Priced paints. BEHR won me over and I will be a loyal buyer from this day forward.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing paint Had previously used same paint in a screened in porch. This spring during light power washing of our porch for pollen infiltration, this paint response was AMAZING! The water beaded and there wasn't nearly the amount of pollen deposit on the walls as before. This is why we chose those product for our outdoor shower.

I decided to give them one more try so only time will tell
