I'm using this the paint cabinets. I used a primer and the paint when on very "sticky" then when trying to blend it lifted of in placed that I had painted that were still wet!! It was a complete mess. Going to start over... How do I restart!? What did I do wrong??
Asked by: ineedHELP
Sorry about your poor painting experience, but don't feel too bad because every one of us has had a least one major "paint fail" during our lifetimes. Existing cabinets must be washed down thoroughly with TSP before even using a primer. Cabinets are commonly coated with a virtually invisible oily film from regular kitchen use. A TSP wash doesn't take that long and helps assure a clean surface. Then, after a thorough dry overnight (I usually put a small fan on the floor of the room where the cabinets are drying) you're almost ready to paint. Whether or not you choose to use a primer is up to you. I prefer to skip the separate primer these days in favor of a very light sand (220) to barely etch the surface, and then using the top of the line paint/prime product from any leading brand. I've had too many instances where the "one coat coverage" promise didn't fully materialize and two coats were actually required. In summary, four steps for me, warm TSP/warm water wipe down followed by a thorough dry, light but thorough surface etch using #220 or equivalent liquid product, finally two coats of top of the line paint/primer with thorough overnight dry in between. There is also special cabinet paint that you can acquire from specialty paint stores that is outstanding, although expensive. Big box stores also have cabinet paint but the quality can be hit and miss from my experience. Most painting "fails" fall into three categories, failure to properly prepare to do the job (applying paint is only around half the labor); getting in a hurry with the application or drying processes; and poor selection of paint and other application materials. Good luck with your repaint. I suggest you remove all paint/primer you can and return to step one. The best news is you'll never have to learn this lesson again! HEY HOME DEPOT...WE NEED YOUR HELP IN PUSHING BACK ON THE PAINT MANUFACTURERS REGARDING THE SIZE OF PRINT ON THE BACK OF THE CANS, INCLUDING THE INSTRUCTIONS. THEY ARE VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO READ THESE DAYS. Maybe the front label becomes a third of the paper, and the back side becomes two thirds, but in any even the instructions are critical. That's why I didn't suggest to this guy that he read the label and follow instructions...because it is often impossible!

If I'm using this paint on cabinets, can I sand it later if I want to change the color?

I hate it when people use latex (non sandable) paints on cabinets and furniture. If you (or someone else) want to change colors later, you have to strip it, vs just sanding it down a little and repainting. So... can this paint be sanded later or will it just gum up like latex? thanks!
Asked by: AZHomestead
Sanding will only bring out the color beneath what you've just applied, and is not a good way to change the color. Those using shabby chic painting techniques commonly prefer this "worn" look, but after light sanding will usually apply a wax or some other sealer.

Can you use this to paint over oil based paint?
Asked by: Jen
Hello Jen, Thank you for your interest in our products. Yes, our Marquee paint can used over an oil based paint. We would just recommend scuff sanding and cleaning the surface before painting. Best regards, Kevin

What is the difference, cameo white vs dutch white? What happened to ultra pure white? Are they all the same white?

Asked by: MAZ
Dutch white has more of a cold/greyish tint, where as cameo white has more of a warm/off-white/yellowish tint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't worry, it's white. Using for molding and some doors around the house. All are light colored or white to begin with and this paint covered all so far with one coat except for some spots I had to patch. I would recommend taking off painter's tape carefully before this is dry as that's the only problem I had when I first started to use this. The paint adhered a little too well to the tape and pulled up some of the paint off the trim. It dries pretty quick and I've learned from using other Behr Marquee paints that it's best to keep moving along and worry about any touch ups after the first coat dries. It also works better if you are generous loading the roll or brush. Spread too thin it will not cover in one coat. I was worried the color cameo white would not be bright enough for me but found that not to be true. Worked well with pastel blue and light grey, and even ivory beige. It's just a tad warmer than bright white but still white, (not grey as shows up on my computer screen.) I think more people would buy this if it were a little less expensive.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from So disappointed I have to write this review as I am frustrated! I went to Home Depot in Ancaster, Ontario with my mind set on WHITE. I have waited 5 years to paint my bedroom. The lady at the paint counter was lovely. I can't complain about the service but she recommended cameo white to me, even though I said I wanted a bright white with no colour in it. Well anyway, after painting my bedroom and bathroom in the colour - if dried grey!!! I am so gutted as like I said I have waited a long time to paint (it's not a cheap or easy process for a mother of three young children). Do not listen to the paint people- go with your gut instinct! Argh!!!! Now I'm stuck with a colour I really do not like. It's almost a lilac grey white. My stomach hurts just thinking about it!! My curtains and bedding look completely off. :( If you are looking for a light grey this is perfect and the paint has an excellent primer. So those are the good points- a can covered my 10x 11 bedroom and small bathroom. Now again I have to say that the lady was really sweet and helpful. I just think the words "cameo white" are misleading- it's far too grey.

It was recommended by a home depot employee. They say ONE COAT COVERAGE.....this is not the case...it took 2 coats. I am extremely disappointed. I could have gotten the same results with a much cheaper brand. I will not be using BEHR paints any longer. Higher price same results as cheaper paint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best paint ever! I have been slowly painting the interior of our home and have been very happy with Behr paint. We have a lot of fancy woodwork and the task of getting it painted has been pretty daunting. I had seen the ads for Marquee on TV and in the store, but thought I could not get it in white to match the Behr Ultra. When the man at the paint counter offered to simply ad colorant, I decided to give it a try. Everything they say about this paint is true. It covers beautifully and easily in one coat and looks fabulous. We had a professional painter do some of the trim last year, and he ended up using four coats of paint to cover the same yellowed cream with white. Now I can paint in less than half the time with half the amount of paint. I am so happy that I will finally get the house repainted and looking nice. (We moved in almost four years ago and learned that it had never been repainted in the 14 years since it was built.)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth the money The paint was runny, it did not go on evenly, and it did not cover in one coat. I purchased enough to cover my bathroom in one coat, but had to purchase an additional quart when the first coat ended up looking terrible. Strangely, I tried to clean something from the wall using only a paper towel and water, and the paint started to come off of the wall. This was one week after I'd painted, so I doubt it was an issue with dry time. I recommend you use a different paint. I've had luck with Behr Paint and Primer In One in the past, and wish I would have gone with that for my bathroom.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not worth it This paint was recommended, as I was trying to buy the behr premium. I was told that only one coat was needed to cover a light mint green. This was not the case. I still have to apply two coats. The cost of this paint (more than $10 more a gallon from the regular behr) is not worth it. So I ended up spending $25 more on 2 gallons. Not happy
