Can this be used on a concrete subfloor in a powder room? Do I need to get a separate primer and ...

Asked by WonderWoman May 5, 2021
1
Answer

Hi WonderWoman. Thank you for writing in with your question. If the subfloor will now be used as the floor and won't be topcoated with flooring or carpeting, our 1-Part Epoxy is a great option for painting the concrete. Also, it's self-priming so a separate primer isn't required. Good luck with your project! -Joni

Will this work as a moisture barrier?

Asked by Courty April 14, 2021
1
Answer

Hi Courty. Thanks for writing in with your question. As it turns out, our 1-Part Epoxy isn't recommended under carpeting and we don't have any products that are considered vapor or moisture barriers. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience this may cause. I recommend working with your local store for suggestions on a product that can be used before laying down your carpeting. Have a nice day! -Joni

Can this be used on fiberglass? On a shower pan, or bath tub for example?

Answer

Hi ThomasHandimann. Thanks for writing in with your question. As it turns out, our 1-Part Epoxy isn't recommended over fiberglass and our products, including our 1-Part Epoxy, aren't recommended for areas submerged under water like a shower pan or bathtub. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience this may cause. I suggest working with your local store for a product that can resist constant water. Have a nice day! -Joni

Hi Ryan, thank you for writing in with your question. Yes, our 1-Part Epoxy can be used to repaint a pool deck. The surface should be sound, clean, dry, and scuff sanded if the previous finish is glossy. Good luck with your project! -Giovanna

Answer

Hi Hannah - Thank you for your questions! Unfortunately, we don't recommend applying our 1-Part Epoxy to wood floors. You may want to check out our Porch & Patio Floor Paint which is a great option for interior wood floors (https://www.homedepot.com/s/white%2520porch%2520and%2520patio%2520floor%2520paint?NCNI-5). Before painting, we recommend cleaning the floor and priming the wood with our Kitchen, Bath & Trim Primer & Sealer to ensure a long-lasting finish (https://www.homedepot.com/p/BEHR-1-gal-White-Acrylic-Interior-Kitchen-Bath-and-Trim-Stain-Blocking-Primer-and-Sealer-07501/100144295). Do you recommend using epoxy paint on ceramic tile?

Asked by DIYer July 5, 2020

Answer

Hi DIYer- Thank you for your question. This product can be used on unglazed ceramic tile. Best - Sara

Does this epoxy paint act more like paint or epoxy where it’s self leveling? Also does this turn yellow after a while?

Asked by DIYer July 5, 2020
1
Answer

Hi DIYer - Thank you for your questions. Our 1-Part Epoxy is similar to a traditional water-based paint, however, it will has a slightly heavier viscosity. Also, this product is water-based so it shouldn't yellow over time like oil-based coatings tend to do. Best - Sara

can this be used to cover enamel paint on concrete? if so, is any additional surface prep needed?

Asked by TheAmazon June 30, 2020
1
Answer

Hi TheAmazon - Thank you for your question. Our Self-Priming 1-Part Epoxy can be applied to a previously painted concrete surface as long as the current coating is in good condition. We recommend scuff sanding the enamel paint and cleaning the surface with a concrete cleaner/degreaser before applying the 1-Part Epoxy to ensure the best adhesion. Happy Painting! - Sara

HI Andrea, thank you for sharing your feedback. We're sorry to hear the epoxy paint you used on your garage floor peeled so soon; that's not the experience we want our customers to have with our products. To get your project back on track, we'd recommend removing all the loose paint from your concrete, spot etching any bare/uncoated concrete areas, cleaning your surface with a concrete cleaner and degreaser, allowing it to dry for at least 24 hours, and touching up the affected areas. For additional adhesion, we'd recommend spot priming all the bare/uncoated areas with our Bonding Primer No. 880 prior to touching up, and allowing the touch-up areas to dry for at least 7 days before parking over them. Cardboard can be used underneath the tires as well (for about 14 days after your application) to ensure the coating has enough time to completely dry before exposing it to hot tires. Customer satisfaction is important to us. Please feel free to contact our Customer Care team directly with any questions you may have or for further assistance. Have a great rest of your day. –Joanna Behr

I purchased this paint for my patio and walkway that I had recently done some cement patchwork on. I felt that painting it would make it look refreshed, and obviously cover the variance between the old and new concrete. This paint has some negative reviews, but I gave it a shot because I am a loyal Behr customer. The paint was very smooth to go on with a brush around the edges and on the entire surface with an epoxy roller. One can was sufficient for two coats for the entire patio and walkway. I am waiting for the cure period to seal it, and hope that it will last for years to come in this high-traffic area. One thing that I would like to add is that it is a bright white, another reviewer mentioned that it wasn't a very bright white, but I can't imagine getting much whiter than this.

Hi Jo, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that the finish was not as glossy as expected. The 1-Part Epoxy will have a satin finish. For extra sheen and protection, I suggest the Wet Look Sealer on top of it. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance, our customer care team is happy to help you! -Giovanna Behr

Hello Jo,
Thanks for taking the time to review our Satin Interior/Exterior Concrete and Garage Floor Paint. I’m sorry to hear it didn’t meet your sheen expectations. I can assure you it’s not the experience we want any of our customers to have. This product has a durable satin finish as described on the label; however, if you’d like more shine, I recommend top-coating with a product like the Behr Wet-Look Sealer. For further assistance, please feel free to reach out directly to our customer care team. Best, Roxana N. Behr
Poor Performance, Instructions Precisely Followed
Really disappointed with this product. Behr is the paint brand that I normally default to when it comes to painting interior walls. When the desire to paint the garage floor, Behr is what I resorted to, sadly. I followed the instructions precisely and waiting a week until walking on it as well as 2 weeks until putting the car in the garage and the paint still peeled. Disappointed and going to consider a different paint company for any upcoming paint project

Hello HomeImprovementFocused42,
Thanks for taking the time to review our Satin Interior/Exterior Concrete and Garage Floor Paint. I'm sorry to hear your garage floor is peeling after two weeks of driving exposure. I can assure you this isn't the experience we want any of our customers to have. To fix, I recommend removing the loose coating, etching bare concrete, cleaning, priming, and touching-up or re-coating as needed uniformity. For further assistance, please feel free to reach out directly to our customer care team. Best, Roxana N. Behr
So Disappointed :(
We used this product for our outdoor concrete patio space that is covered from rain, sun and other weather. This was brand new concrete and the surface was etched extensively prior to applying the product. Less than a year later almost a third of the product has chipped off. Now I’m wondering what I can even do to make things better. Overwhelmed by the amount of work I put in the first time around and thinking about doing that all over again so soon is the worst. Definitely wouldn’t recommend this product to anyone, can’t imagine parking a car on this space, our damage is literally only from foot traffic.

Response from Sara, Behr Customer CareMay 6, 2021
Hi WFamily - Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about the chipping on your covered patio space! To fix the finish, I recommend removing the loose paint, sanding down any harsh edges to a smooth finish, applying a coat of paint to the bare areas (this will act as your bonding primer coat), then 1-2 new coats to the whole area for uniformity and a long-lasting finish. I've also reached out to you via email to help you with this further. Thanks again for taking the time to share this with us, and I hope to hear back from you! - Sara
Don't take their word for it
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So far I am completely disappointed in this paint. After 3 coats, a complaint to customer service, another coat and 3 coats of the sealer they sent.... I have just had to scrape all the paint up off the floor so I can start over. The paint just comes up with normal walking and cleaning. If water accidentally sits on the floor the paint bubbles up and peels away. All of this work is being done on an animal shelter that rely on donations to make it thru, so spending the money on paint, then having to re-do it all is really a setback. I give 2 stars and not just 1 because the customer service person that sent the sealer (even tho it didn't work...) was very nice and professional.

Very Disappointing
Followed the directions to the letter and then let it sit twice as long as recommended. Tire peel happened almost immediately. Looks awful. What a waste if time and money.

Response from Joanne, Behr Customer CareMay 3, 2021
Hi FMnc, thank you for your review. I'm so sorry the paint is peeling even after letting it dry longer. I recommend removing any loose coating, spot etching the bare concrete to feel like 150 grit sandpaper, spot priming the bare concrete spots with our Concrete & Masonry Bonding Primer No. 880 to further help with adhesion in those areas, then touching up and recoating with the paint. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. I'll reach out to you directly to assist you with this further. Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience with us, and I hope to hear from you soon! -Joni

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I applied this on my side walk around the house. 10 months and it's already peeling out. I followed all instructions and still it peeled. Use some other product but not this.

Hi Kishore, thanks for sharing your feedback. We're sorry to hear the epoxy paint you used on your sidewalk peeled so soon; that's not the performance we expect from our products.

Long time Behr customer left dissatisfied.
In September of 2020, we purchased this product to cover our bare garage concrete. We prepped the concrete as directed using a power washer & highly toxic chemicals (muriatic acid & concrete cleaner). Waited for the concrete to fully dry. After applying our two coats as directed, we waited more than 5 days to park our vehicles in our newly finished garage. After driving in the 1st snowfall of the winter of 2020, our newly coated concrete immediately began peeling off in chunks under each of the tires (2 cars). This product does not perform as intended, and we would not consider recommending this product, nor are we sure that we are willing to waste another 2 weeks re-prepping, re-applying the product, and waiting for the product to dry again. This was a moderate to high-priced home project between the Behr product, and all of the additional supplies needed to complete the job.
