Questions & Answers

What prep do cabinets require
ByAug 6, 2026

Answer This Question

Hi Mike, thanks for reaching out with your question. When painting cabinets, you will want to lightly sand the surface with medium-grit sandpaper to enhance adhesion. After sanding, wipe away any dust with a damp cloth and let the surface dry thoroughly. Once dry, prime your surface using our Behr Kitchen, Bath & Trim Stain-Blocking Primer & Sealer No. 75. Once the primer is dry, you can apply your new paint coating. Good luck with your project, and if you have any additional questions, feel free to reach out to us directly! -Angie

      Answer This Question

Hi Cr5046, thank you for reaching out with your question. You can purchase our Cabinet, Door & Trim Paint in White and use it as is, right out of the container, and get a beautiful white color. However, if you want to purchase the color Vibrant White BWC-12, you will need to have your coating tinted to this color. Please feel free to reach out to us directly if you have any other questions. - Angie

I just painted my wood trim and doors with this paint. I had primed before using this paint and streaks in random areas of the trim have started to appear

        Answer This Question

Hi Andrew, thank you for your question. I'm sorry to hear that some streaks are beginning to appear on your surface after applying our coating. To help fix this, I recommend allowing the coated surface to dry for 24 hours and then spot-sanding any unwanted textured areas using 180-240 grit sandpaper and cleaning the area. Once the surface is clean and dry, you may touch up and recoat as needed. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance. Our Customer Care team is happy to help! -Angie

          Answer This Question

Hi there, thank you for your question. Unfortunately, we do not recommend thinning the Cabinet, Door and Trim Paint. This paint can be sprayed without thinning, using an airless sprayer with a .013-.015" spray tip and 60 mesh filter. Have a great day! -Giovanna

            Answer This Question

Hi Geri, thank you for your question. While we don't recommend using the paint directly on the fiberglass door, you can use the Bonding Primer No. 432 first. Once primed, you can use the Cabinet, Door and Trim Paint to topcoat. Good luck with your project! -Giovanna

At HandyManors, speed and durability are everything. Behr Premium Satin Enamel delivers both. It goes on smooth with minimal brush marks and levels out nicely on doors and trim. The satin finish resists scuffs and wipes clean easily—essential for high-traffic spots. Flow is great, coverage is solid, and it cures tough. It’s my go-to choice for dependable, professional trim refreshes.

I love this paint. I used it on all of my interior doors and trim in my old house and am now in the process of using it for the same things in my new house. Its the bright white I am looking for and it goes on smooth.

Very good cabinet paint. I've use it on several cabinets. I would have given a 5 rating, but my only issue was it runs a little.

I bought a home with a small kitchen so I added a wall of cabinets. The existing were oak finshed, woodgrain. Purchased unfinished new cabinets and painted the old and new. Great coverage and easy to work with.

Love the sheen, easy to work with don’t understand why anyone would give this paint a negative review.

DO NOT BUY!! IT DOES NOT LEVEL PROPERLY!!
JUNK!! The leveling with this paint is horrible! I tried to paint with it about 6-7 times with different rollers, brushes, airless and HVLP sprayers. None of these methods would leave a smooth finish. Always left roller marks or bubbles. It was sanded very smoothly between each coat too. It dries too quickly to properly level. The room temperature did not matter. Even a cold room in the evening didn't help. Even though it's not recommended, I also got desperate and tried Flotrol, but that didn't help either. Don't waste your time and energy.

                    Response from BehrJan 14, 2026
Hi Felix, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about the issues you experienced with the paint. That's not typical, and I can understand your disappointment. It sounds like the paint was drying too fast. Adding 4 oz. of water per gallon will help slow down the dry time, and provide more working time. We appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance. Our Customer Care team is happy to help! -Giovanna Behr
