Q:I have just under 2000 sq ft basement floor that needs to be done. And it recommends 2 coats. So should I be purchasing 4, 5 gallon buckets?
by|Jul 16, 2024

Answer This Question

A:  Hi zach, thanks for your question. One gallon of our 1-Part Epoxy covers 300-500 square feet for one coat. To apply two full coats to your 2,000 square foot basement, you'll need about 10 gallons. Good luck with your project! -Christina

          Highly disapointed product!
I purchased two gallons of this pain on a long weekend Sunday when other pro-paint shops were closed. Unfortunately, this paint does not match a better quality brand like Benjamine Moor. For me, it was a huge loss. As a professional contractor, I painted a garage floor for my customer but only a few days later I had customer negative feedback on my job. The paint is not scratch-resistant! The customer is unhappy and I have to redo all floor again with a different paint. Stay away!!!

            DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT
I originally used this product 20 years ago and my floor held up great, but it was in need of a refresh. We bought 5 gallons of this nightmare, and have been very careful to follow the directions in its application. Just like everyone has said recently in reviews, it is peeling! It has little random chips all over it. Listen to the many many bad reviews. This product is no longer a quality product. THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE RECALLED! I would like a refund. I am so disappointed.

            Response from BehrJun 21, 2024
Hi SadPainter, thank you for your review. While it's great to hear you had great results in the past with our 1-part Epoxy, I'm sorry to hear that this time around, it has not held up as expected and is peeling. I assure you this is not the experience we want for our customers, and I understand your disappointment. To get your project back on track, remove the loose coating, sand the edges smoothly, etch bare concrete (the surface is supposed to feel like 150-grit sandpaper), clean, let dry, and touch up or recoat as needed. You can also apply our Concrete Masonry & Bonding Primer No. 880 beforehand; it helps promote extra adhesion. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to our customer care team directly for further assistance; they are always happy to help! -Alex Behr

              Use something else
Terrible paint. It's a pre-made paint, but will still not match unless you do the entire project as one coat. Even then it doesn't match always. Just painted a floor, outlined first with a brush then roller. Guess what, you can see a difference. The paint doesn't last, very watery and chips and peels with ease. Multiple coats are needed within a couple years from very light traffic. Will not purchase again.

Hi Cesar, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about your experience after using the 1-Part Epoxy Floor Paint. This is designed to resist rain after 24 hours of drying, so I can understand your disappointment. If the coating is still intact, allow it to dry for at least one week. After, check the coating to see if it dries evenly. If the coating shows signs of being affected by the rain, scuff sand the surface, clean and etch any bare concrete spots as needed, let dry, and re-coat. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance. Our customer care team is happy to help you! - Randy Behr

                  Terrible
Do not buy this product absolute waste of your money! I bought 2 gallons of this and within 24 hours of completing this project it was chipping without anything being put into the garage. Nothing was driven or moved against the floor and it chipped this bad! We grinded the floor and we cleaned the floor like we were suppose to prior and still it turned out like this! Terrible! Waste of your time to apply it and your money! Can’t believe what they charge per gallon for results like that

Hi Brit, thank you for the review. I’m sorry to hear that our 1-Part Epoxy Concrete & Garage Floor Paint started chipping and coming up. This is not typical, and I can understand your disappointment. To fix this, I recommend removing the loose coating by scraping or sanding, then etching the bare concrete using a product such as muriatic acid. After the floor is etched, cleaned, and dry, and the surface/air temperature is between 50-90F, apply one coat of 1-Part Epoxy as a primer coat, followed by a second coat for best results. Optionally, our Concrete Bonding Primer can be used to help increase adhesion. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance. Our customer care team is happy to help you! - Randy Behr

This epoxy paint is low grade
Don't buy. We followed all the instructions, etched the surface, scrubbed and dried prior to application. It peels and lifts. I pulled up a piece of painters tape that dropped on the floor and it took the paint off. Move something it scratch off. It continues! We went to the home Depot store for a refund it has a limited warranty one year. They wouldn't take it back. Behr doesn't allow them to give refunds. We have to call Behr DIRECTLY to get a refund. Bad product, service and inconvenient!

Hi Leaslie, thank you for your review. I'm so sorry to hear about your poor experience with our Concrete & Garage 1-Part Epoxy. I want to assure you that your satisfaction is very important to us, and we want to do our best to help turn this around. To fix the peeling, I recommend removing any loose coating and then etching the bare concrete. Then, prime the bare spots with our Concrete & Masonry Bonding Primer (No.880) to enhance the adhesion before touching up the Epoxy and recoating the surface if needed. We always encourage our customers to reach out to us directly for one-on-one service and to further help with their projects. If you're willing to work with us directly, please contact our Customer Care team so we can get more info about your project and further assist you. We hope to hear from you soon! -Lina Behr

All chipping up just like others here!
As you all know this is a crazy expensive Epoxy paint which supposedly has primer within it I used it for my shop floor which is almost 3,000 ft and after only a few days especially near the door openings where more moisture is present here in Western New York the paint is all chipping and bubbling up after all the money spent I am literally sick because I just don't have any more funds to pour into the floor so I am buying some floor rugs to throw down to cover up this crappy paint until I can afford the totally remove and replace it I'm hoping that dry lock will work better yes like the other reviews you really really should stop selling this paint after spending over $500 on two of the large buckets I totally
