Answer

Hi bill - Thank you for your question. Granite Grip can be applied directly on top of our other concrete stains as long as the finish is still in good condition. We recommend scuff sanding the surface and making sure the area is clean and dry before applying 2 coats of Granite Grip. Best - Sara

I am not sure I would. I have used it on a front porch and a garage that isn’t used daily. It has been very durable but he uses carpet over the parts that might get greasy.

Can this be used painting a water fountain? It is concrete too.

Answer

Hi getenough- Thank you for your question! We don't recommend applying Granite Grip to a concrete water fountain. The excessive moisture exposure may cause the finish to break down prematurely. We don't have a similar finish that is suitable for a water fountain, but you may want to reach out to your local Home Depot for some suggestions on a similar finish that would work for your project. How many coats you really need
Thought this was going to be great on our 500 sq.ft. Lanai in Florida. Was going over a terracotta color. On our 4th coat now!! Someone shoot me for trying this paint. I’ve watched numerous videos and we are applying according to all instructions & others reviews, with the adhesive roller covers, as recommended. You can see all the roller marks no matter what we did. Applied it think, thin, rolled less, rolled more, etc. we had professional painters doing it, so our simple paint job budget more than doubled$$$!!! OUCH! Not to mention we are on the 4TH 5-GALLON BUCKET NOW @ $225 per 5Gallons! OUCH!!! Never, ever again nor can I recommend this junk.

POOR ADHERENCE PRODUCT!
This product peeled up after 1 year. We did the application prep correctly the first time. What a mess we had to get a grinder to remove some parts that did adhere and spend money getting a stamped overlay. This was used on a new sidewalk that was a year old. I should have never touched it. Don’t waste your money. We removed it all , reprepped the sidewalk and tried it a second time. The picture is from the second application.

Terrible Product. Bubbled after 1st rain.
Applied as directed during optimal weather after acid etching and cleaning plus dry time before application. Looked great upon finish and 3 coats but after 1st rain it looks like this. Bubbled up everywhere where surface rain reached.

Response from BehrApr 9, 2021

Hard work but worth it
Instructions say to not try and use two colors, but we wanted the gray as a border and the tan as the main color. We also wanted the non-slip properties because it would be around the pool. We painted two patios and the pool area because we are gluttons for punishment. While following the instructions and painting the first coat of gray, we were horribly disappointed and cursing the gods for how long it was taking and how dreadful it looked. The children hid in the house and our marriage was in jeapordy. Maybe the second coat would be better? No. No it wasn't. Rather than sell the house and split up, we threw away the rule book. My wife would pour a strip directly on the concrete which I then spread thickly with a roller, not pressing too hard, and she smoothed it with a brush. Eureka! It took us 3 days of painting, taking breaks only long enough for it to dry, to let our knees get a break and to go buy more paint. To get the look that it shows on the can, we had to do three coats and a final thin coat to even out the color because there is a color difference between cans of the same color. Using frog tape on the borders was the only tape that wouldn't peel any paint off. We started with 11 gallons and ended up using 26. We do a lot of DIY and this was, by far, the toughest material we have ever worked with - but we can't downplay the result. We absolutely love how it looks and everyone that sees it compliments us on it. It was still cheaper than paying someone to do it and you can tell that it's going to last. I catch myself looking out the window just to look at it, weeks later. Tldr; Don't follow the instructions and follow your gut. Don't give up and you'll need a lot to get the professional look on the can.

This product was unrecognizable on my patio from the picture on the can. Terrible horrible coverage which cost me more than twice as what it should have. Buying the second order left me with no money. Looks awful and I can't afford to fix it. No more Home Depot paint EVER!!!

Response from BehrApr 2, 2021
Hello Disgusted, thank you for your review. I'm so sorry the paint didn't cover well and doesn't look like the picture. This is not the experience we want our customers to have. I recommend allowing the coating to dry for 72 hours then applying an additional coat across the clean surface for better coverage. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please feel free to reach out to our Customer Care team directly for further assistance with this. Our team is happy to help you! -Joni Behr

Not as advertised
Bought 2 gallons of tan grip paint. Used 1/4in roller as suggested and barely went on except various areas. Then used brush and roller again. After 4 coats my patio looks worse than when began. Definitely not tan but more of gray in certain areas. Few patches of textured areas but see my pics to get full effect. Horrible product!!! Wouldn't pay $10 gallon never mind the $50 it costs

Response from BehrApr 1, 2021
Hi John,

Thank you for reviewing Behr Granite Grip. I'm very sorry to hear about the color and appearance issues experienced, as it certainly isn't what we want our customers to go through. Applying Granite Grip can be challenging. If you're rolling it on, it's imperative to apply little-to-no pressure and not roll over the same section more than 2-3 times. Many of our customers have had a much easier time applying Granite Grip with a texture sprayer (4mm tip); Home Depot usually has some great rental options available. Something else that can help you achieve full coverage with less work is pouring Granite Grip onto the surface and spreading from the center outward with a trowel. However, this application process may require more product. Customer satisfaction is very important to us, and I encourage you to contact Behr directly for further assistance. We'd love to learn more about your project and find the best way to help.

Kindest regards,

Doris Behr
