I am getting ready to use Granite Grip over existing old outside chattahoochee 10X35 covered patio. I plan to pressure wash, etch with muriatic acid and the apply a recommended concrete bonding primer. Is this what I should be using before three coats of Granite Grip? Please advise.

Should I use more than coat? It says cover 300 sq feet. I have 250 sq feet and barely had to use half gallon.

Asked by: Kev
Yes. It works better with a thicker coat.

I heard bonding primer is not supposed to go over existing paint. My basement has some old paint still I can't scrap off, can this be used on it or is there an option that can go on concrete and old paint? not sure if I should just go try regular latex primer because of existing paint.
Asked by: Jay
Jay, I have used this product only on a couple of applications on my 1890's vinatage house (but newer basement floor). I have used the product where some paint could not be removed but where I was mostly down to concrete. So I had to paint this primer over latex paint in places. After 18 months (exterior) and a few months (interior floor), so far no problems of any kind. But I would say that the product is probably at its best on concrete. Rick

I have a 500sf,, newly poured, 2-stall garage slab, with an extremely smooth and smooth finished surface. I tend to wait 30-days primer to applying any coating. Will I need to etch the surface with a prep BEFORE applying the Primer?? I intended to use Behr 1-part Epoxy floor paint for my finish. Thank you for any advice! Westifer
Asked by: Westifer
I would as it will allow for a better bond.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THIS IS THE STUFF!!!! 10 yrs ago I power washed, acid etched and sanded my concrete shop floor...applied a great quality 2 part epoxy concrete paint....worked great for about 8 years. Efflorescence (sp?) started working its way up and finally I had spots (2" to 18") starting to lift and peal...nothing I did would stop the efflorescence and lifting until this Behr primer. Cleaned the bare spots, sanded (50 grit) and then DOUBLE primed with the Behr primer. Finally recoated with 2 part epoxy paint and have not had a single bit of efflorescence or lifting. I love this stuff AND I've been using on exterior wood trim as a primer because it "seaks" out moisture and seals it. It has worked great as a primer on exterior painted cedar. Wish I would have found this primer years ago!

Went down good covers good, used the primer followed instructions to a t, but still comes up with tires.even gave it a extra 36 hours drying time. Cant recommend it for a garage, but would probably be ok for basement floor etc.

Did not cover like the prior product I bought at Home Depot and they do not sell it anymore, which was disappointment as the prior coverage with the total white did an outstanding job.
