Is it required to use a primer on very good/well etched concrete?
Asked by: docbot
Hi docbot, Thank you for your question. We do recommend priming with our Bonding Primer (https://www.homedepot.com/p/BEHR-Premium-1-gal-Concrete-and-Masonry-Bonding-Primer-88001/100129649) on bare concrete before applying our 1-Part Epoxy Paint. I hope this was helpful, and best of luck. -Edith

Asked by: Beans
Hello beans, Thanks for writing in. Yes, you can mop the 1-Part Epoxy using soap and water to cleant the surface. I hope this helps and good luck on your project. Best, Roxana N.

Customer Reviews

BEHR Premium 1 gal. #902 Slate Gray 1-Part Epoxy Satin Interior/Exterior Concrete and Garage Floor Paint is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 1548.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor durability I bought this in October 2018 to recoat a concrete floor in my house, used as my "dog room". I scrubbed the floor using a commercial floor scrubber, allowed it to dry for a week. Initial application was spotty to the point that Behr sent me a coupon for another gallon so I could recoat the areas where the pain blistered and peeled up. Now 11 months later, the entire floor is flaking. All my crates are placed on carpet pieces to prevent any scratching so the only"unusual" foot traffic is the fact of having several beagles walk over the floor on their way into and out of the house. Had better luck 10 years ago with a cheap garage paint (non epoxy product) and would not use this Behr product again, nor recommend it. Thought this product would hold up better to wet feet when the dogs come in from a romp in the rain -- I can't imagine how poorly it would hold up to tires, especially when a car is parked on it after a rainstorm.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolutely Horrible Product! If I could give it negative stars I would. After making a major time investment to follow all instructions exactly, including cleaning, etching, priming, painting and sealing over a 3 week period of time, then waiting over 8 weeks to allow curing before parking, the paint is now lifting from tires. The first problem came with the wet look sealer milking in places despite thin careful application. After speaking with Behr and trying their solutions to no avail, and then calling back only to find out stripping was the only remedy remaining, we decided to just live with the milky streaks. After finally beginning to park in garage, as soon as tires were even remotely wet, upon backing care from garage we heard a horrible ripping sound, only to find four tire spots lifted from floor. 3 months of not being able to use the garage, and now we will have to pay to have the floor stripped and professionally epoxied. Behr has simply failed the quality product test and lost a customer for life. Disgusting!!

I used the Rustoleum Clean and Etch to get up the dirt and prep the surface of a 10 yr old garage floor. I used this on one side after putting Rustoleum floor paint on the other side but running out before finishing. The Rustoleum paint only comes in a two gallon pack and I only needed one gallon to finish. Plus, HD was having a sale on Behr products and this qualified for the rebate, making it significantly cheaper so I thought I would try it. This standard color is a bit darker than the Rustoleum but it isn't too dark. Both have lasted well despite car traffic, sliding heavy objects over the floor and giving the floor the general abuse of a garage and auto workshop. Spills also clean up easily. Since the floor was etched prior to painting, it has a nice texture to it so slipping has not been a problem. All in all, it has been a great investment though doing proper prep is not a fun job but crucial to having a durable finish. The paint has held up well for over 7 months.

Within a month it was peeling. I called Behr, They seemed nice and sent me 10 gallons of "their best 2 step floor expoy". Granite Grip. Etched the floor a couple times to make wure it was done correctly. Applied the Granite Grip and just over a week later I was blowing off saw dust with an air hose. The product ballooned off the floor. Between the first and second Behr product I WASTED at least 100 hours of labor. Being a disabled senior, those were precious hours. Behr could not care less. They asked for pictures of the floor. From the PICTURES I sent they said the floor was too smooth and that was it. They could not care less. I brought in my own expert. Well known internationally in the paint industry and sent Behr his impressions. I have never heard back from Behr. I guess they hope I just go away quietly. I never go away quietly. When I cut up my Home Depot credit card, I will return it to Home Depot with they way I was treated by THEIR PAINT COMPANY Behr paint

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I got a bad mix and it cost me. I bought this product for my basement workshop floor. Initially it went down fine. I noticed it had what I thought was a texturized in it, a grit which kind of surprised me. So, I kept stirring as I went. A third a way into the can the paint started to clump up on my roller. The clumps went onto the floor. I tried sweeping the clumps out as I went. By the time I got to half a gallon, the paint had the consistency of oat meal. I went a little bit longer but obviously something was wrong. Back to home Depot. They shook up and opened a fresh can and it was pure paint, no grit. There was something wrong with the can I bought. They asked if it was stored in the cold. It was in my 68 degree basement the whole time. Home Depot refunded my money and has a greed to let me use one of there rental buffers with sanding disks to get the lumps out of my floor. Behr is getting of easy. I should hire someone to clean up the mess, then send them the bill. Always have the paint salesman open your can and check for consistency before you leave the store.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Check Suppliers reviews before purchase We purchased the Behr Premium 1-Part Epoxy based on the reviews found here. We applied the paint after following all prep instructions to the letter. After the recommended 7 day wait period, the paint scratched off with a fingernail. So after waiting three weeks to park our vehicle on the surface, we find that the paint is being pulled up by the tires. After noting the problems, we checked the ratings of the paint on the supplier's website. a well known box-store. The ratings on that site were considerably lower, with many warnings from other consumers not to purchase. Naturally, after the expense of purchasing the paint and supplies, not to mention the time and energy spent on the prep work, we are most disapointed. We now are faced with the big job of removing the Behr paint, and replacing it with a better product. Would appreciate Behr's feedback.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Only Product We Used that Flakes Last October we, a licensed painting contractor, applied Behr's 1-Part Epoxy Garage and Floor Paint on a customer's large garage floor. We followed all surface preparation instructions dutifully, since our reputation is always on the line and since our survival depends on that very reputation. After a few months, we received a call from our customer and were asked to inspect the floor as it was flaking. True enough, the coating had started to flake away all over the garage, and not just under where the tires normally would be. We were shocked upon seeing this, considering that we have been painting floors since 2001 and have never had a problem with other brands. I checked on the Home Depot website for reviews of this product. The reviews are overwhelmingly negative, with most reviewers stating that the product peels and flakes within a few days to a few months following application, just as we have found. We have been business customers of Behr's since 2001 are are now considering using another brand exclusively.. We absolutely do not recommend this product. The results may look good for a while only.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from BUYER BEWARE - DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT OR YOU WILL BE SORRY I usually do not do product reviews but have had such a bad experience with this product I have to leave a review. I recently applied 2 gallons of this paint to my garage floor. We waited a week before we started to park our cars in the garage. The water condensation from the car air conditioners caused the paint to bubble up and easily peel away. I also tested by applying a small amount of water to an area of the garage floor and the same results the water basically absorbed thru the paint and caused it to bubble up. I call Behr and of course they have never heard of the issue. The only think I can think of is they forgot to add something to the paint, but now I am stuck with a garage floor that isn't even water resistant. I spent a whole weekend of my time on this project only to very disappointed. First and last time I ever by a Behr product! DO NOT BUY!
