A: Absolutely garage floor! Etching will remove effloresence, a white powdery residue found on new concrete, and promote better adhesion. According to Behr, "New concrete must cure at least 30-days."
A: Dear garage floor, Thanks for considering our Behr Premium 2-Part Epoxy Garage Floor Coating for your project. We highly recommend your new concrete floor to cure at least 30 days before subjecting to any coatings. All floor coating project require some form of surface preparation to ensure a long-lasting durable and professional looking finish. Our 2-Part Epoxy Garage Floor Coating Kit does include most of the necessary items needed to complete your project. For your new concrete floor, listed are the required preparation steps. 1. Check the surface to ensure it is not sealed or have high amounts of hydrostatic pressure (ground moisture). To check for a sealer, Test the surface by dripping a small amount of water onto the surface. If water beads and continues to stay on top, it indicates that a sealer is present and the BEHR Premium 2-Part Epoxy may not adhere. The sealer must be removed before using this product. After stripping, re-test the surface for water absorbency. To check for excessive hydrostatic pressure, by taping a 3’ x 3’ (1 x 1 m) piece of plastic directly to the concrete using duct tape on all edges. Allow the plastic to sit for 24 hours. If water droplets appear on the inside of the plastic after 24 hours or if the concrete is damp, the surface contains moisture and the floor should not be painted. Moisture problem must be corrected before coating. 2. The surface must be clean, dry and free of dust, dirt, grease, oil, curing agents and all other contaminants. 3. Our 2-Part Epoxy Garage Floor Coating Kit includes a Cleaner/Etcher packet: For proper penetration and adhesion of topcoat, use Cleaner/Etcher (included in kit). Wear protective clothing, eye goggles and acid resistant rubber gloves and footwear. Dissolve all concentrated powder with 1 gallon of warm water in a plastic container and stir. Pre-wet the surface with water. Apply all solution using a plastic watering can. One gallon of dissolved solution will etch and clean approximately 200 - 250 sq. ft. Allow product to stand for 10 minutes, then scrub vigorously using a stiff plastic brush. Please refer to the instruction guide for application instructions.
