Can this go over vinyl tiles in a basement? Most of the floor will be covered by a large area rug.

Asked by: Tb118
The instructions on the can are only for applying to wood and concrete. There is a recommended primer which might increase the likelihood it would adhere and wear well on vinyl, but I would be afraid it would peel easily. I would call Behr (800.854.0133, ext. 2) and speak with a coatings professional to see if they would recommend this product or a different one for your needs.

Can this be used to pa.int over tile

Asked by: Debbie
Hello Debbie, Thanks for your question. Yes, this paint can be applied to tile. If it's an unglazed, porous type, then you could apply a primer like our No. 436 Multi-Surface Primer first and then paint: http://www.homedepot.com/p/BEHR-Premium-Plus-1-gal-Multi-Surface-Interior-Exterior-Primer-and-Sealer-43601/100205766. If it's a glazed or otherwise slick/glossy/nonporous type of tile, then that would require the use of a primer like our sister company's Kilz Adhesion Primer: http://www.homedepot.com/s/kilz%2520adhesion%2520primer?NCNI-5. Please be sure to follow all label instructions for best results. Well wishes! -Joshua

Customer Reviews

1 gal. #PFC-75 Tar Black Low-Lustre Interior/Exterior Porch and Patio Floor Paint is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 66.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from best for basement floor! I use this on in my very large, very old basement--which is not a finished space, but still has concrete walls, a rough crooked floor and sometimes collects water. This paint withstands traffic, using large tools, the occasional water puddles and the general dirtiness of "basement 'stuff' ". One coat of grey lasted for years... and it covered all the scuffs and grime without any lifting or peeling. It made a dreary space look great! Since I have lived here for 18 years now, I repainted the abused floor only twice- with the same great one coat of grey behr paint!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great coverage I recently purchased (4) gallons of this product for two screened in porch surfaces which were painted blue and another one teal green. I bought the stock grey and wasn't sure it would even cover in (2) coats. It completely covered in (1) coat and the second coat really filled in the porousness of the wood and looked very full and robust when completed. I was partial to Sherwin Williams Porch enamel for years but am I'm impressed with what Behr has to offer and will continue to use it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Durable Just bought a new house and my bathroom floor was in poor condition after I removed the carpet. New hardwood was not in the budget at the moment, so I decided to paint and stencil it! I used Behr Porch and Patio paint and stenciled using a little sample jar of exterior paint. It turned out fabulous! Used Magnetic Grey for base. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing paint! I used this to paint my laundry room floor which was a hideous vinyl tile. We couldn't afford to replace just yet, so we painted to get us through and I love it so much that I might not ever replace it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great paint I painted a large deck and stairs recently and this went on like a dream. I’ve used Behr exclusively for over 20 years as it’s reliable and covers easily.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The epoxy is better product Coating basement and laundry floor thought this would be the best product as I had concerns the floor would be slippery. Granite grip was not easy to apply and had terrible coverage so after the first gallon I changed to the concrete floor and patio paint. This applies like paint looked great but I found it chipped easily not as in the products was just falling off but moving things back into place I got some chipping. Saved main area for last and switched again - went with 1 party epoxy. Excellent results. Went on like paint and so far no chipping at all (did similar rearranging as other room but did not get the little chips). 1 part epoxy is the best of the three. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great coverage A mid-winter refinance of our home led to a hasty repair and repaint of the front outside stairs. Selecting a light gray, we were able to get a mostly one-coat coverage over a very weathered, formerly blue paint after scraping and sanding. The temperatures at this time were hovering just above the freezing mark, but the paint went on smoothly with a breeze and midday sun helping the drying process. Once the frigid weather subsides we will be applying a second coat, but for now it has passed inspection and we are very pleased with the results. I've included a work in progress photo so you can compare the before and after colors. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome floor paint I bought this paint after I ripped up all of the outdated tile in my home. I wasn't sure about the coverage at first but within the first hour and the first coat, I was thrilled! The paint was easy to apply and quick to dry. I waited about 6 hours to apply a second coat and another 24 to apply the third. I knew I needed mutiple coats because I have dogs and kids in the house. It's amazing and I hope to tackle an outside patio projet next with this awesome paint! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
