Q:Has anyone experienced paint chipping when applied to concrete?

          Answer This Question

A:  Hello Grod777, thank you for your question. Film forming coatings, such as our DeckOver, may potentially chip, as the protective film wear and weathers away. However, proper preparation of your surface is key to ensuring a successful application, as it will ensure proper adhesion of your topcoat to your surface. Hope this info helps. Good luck with your project, and happy painting! -Joanna

I spend a couple hundred dollars on this product spent weeks doing preparation washing, some sanding, filling cracks 3 times to fill followed directions EXACTLY, it took forever to prep according to directions. The product didn't even last one season. Anywhere there was a crack the product lifted from the deck in large areas. A chair scratched the paint and I didn't repair it the next day it rained and area around the scratch peeled in an area 4 inches by 12 inches. This same failure occured in many places and now I have to remove all this crap and redo my deck. This is a great disappointment as I have used Behr products for years on several houses on the siding, inside on all walls and always been a good company but this product is crap DO NOT BUY.

Not recommended if you have dogs! We completely sanded our deck before applying the DeckOver/Slate Gray and did two coats. A few days later, we let the dogs on the deck and it's all scratched up. They had their nails recently clipped, too.

We regret to hear of the negative experience you have had with our product and we would like to help.In reading your review, it sounds like the coating scratched up easily when your dogs went on the deck. To fix this, we recommend sanding the affected areas, cleaning with the All-In-One Wood Cleaner and touching up. The coating takes about 3 days to cure, and once cured you should not keep experiencing this issue. A customer care representative has reached out to you directly to help and also provide some tips. Followed the directions without exception. Applied this product on 08/31/2013 (temp mid-80s) wood was not hot to touch and it was not applied in direct sun. I am putting on a new coat in late June 2017. I believe surface prep is key, as is allowing the wood to dry completely before applying this product. Mixing it with a high speed drill with a drum mixer attachment is big factor too. Also mixing it every hour seems to ensure the ingredients continue to be well blended . I like to use the brush versus a roller for the first coat -- takes a lot more time, but I coat my 800 sq foot deck over the course of several days. (usually three hours per day). High traffic area and top railing surface requires more attention and yearly touch-ups, but that was more cautionary versus a required action. First two photos are before/after pics from 2013. The next two are what the deck looks like today. I'll apply a second coat with a roller.

                      Outstanding product
My deck had not been painted or treated for more than 6 years. Cracks and hail damage. Two coats of this product did exactly what is advertised. Make sure you follow directions and apply as indicated on the label. Wonderful result and very pleased with the outcome.

                      I was not impressed
The product went on as advertised and did cover more than I thought. It looked really nice for a week or so. Problem is I ordered in Sage which is lighter color and any dirty foot prints show bad. I thought it would just wash off but after 4 weeks I tried scrubbing the deck off and the foot prints will not come up. I used a good floor cleaner and medium brush but foot prints will not come off. I would not recommend this product for anyone with dogs or children who track dirt.

Waste of Time, Effort and Money!
I bought this product hoping it would live up to its claims it was like painting with toothpaste but the result looked good. However after following all of the steps prescribed, (stripping, washing and drying) the product started to peel after just one season. I dont mean crack I mean peel off in sheets. for the most part the entire deck surface was bare after my toddler swept it. Does not last. not worth the money unless you want to peel and reapply each year and always have chunks of the material in your yard for the rest of your life. ABSOLUTE GARBAGE

Dosen't hold up to foot traffic
I used this on a set of wood steps entering into the house. It looked very good when first applied but began to peel within a few months. I applied the and prepped as noted on the product container. I note that several others have had the same problem in prior reviews. t
