Went on nice. Looked great for about 4 months. Now it’s all peeling and looks worse than it did with the old stain. I have to sand both decks and start over. These are pics from the front deck that doesn’t get used or walked on. So no wear and tear possible. Such a waste of money.

Hi BRen,
Thank you for reviewing Behr DeckOver. I'm very sorry to hear about the peeling issue experienced within a year, as that's not what we want our customers to go through. The loose DeckOver can be removed with a floor sander/grinder. Home Depot usually has great rental options available. After removing the loose areas and cleaning with Behr All-in-One Wood Cleaner, the surface should dry for at least 24 hours in dry weather before recoating. If there are DeckOver remnants left, they can be topcoated. Customer satisfaction is very important to us and I encourage you to contact Behr directly for further assistance. We'd love to learn more about your project and find the best way to help.
Kindest regards,
Doris

This is a quick fix that will ruin your existing “old” deck. My husband spent a week prepping and painting with deck over, only to have it bubble up and peel the following year. Although the top of deck is sealed, moisture from beneath soaks the wood and causes blistering of paint on top. Our deck gets full sun until 2 pm then shaded for the remainder of day.
We were provided more product at no monetary cost. Spent another week or so repairing only to have same problem but worse!!!
There is a class action law suit against this product in California so I’m surprised it is still on the market. Too bad I live in Virginia.

Happy with first coat
Just purchased this yesterday. The brand I wanted was being discontinued so the Associate helped me pick out a different product. I am doing my wood deck in two different colors so I started with the floor boards first. I purchased one gallon and was going back to purchase another one but after reading reviews on other websites I am sticking with one. Directions says 2 coats are needed. A lot of complaints that the product peels after the winter weather. This product is too expensive to have to re-do every year so I will wait until after the Winter to apply my second coat and of course I will update my review also.

Unbelievable
I never believed the ads for paint or deck coating products. How could any Paint or Coating fill those splits or cracks that develop in wood over time. Never could a Coating take care of the neglect outdoor wood gets, especially on a high desert home like ours! Well I BELIEVE in this BEHR DeckOver product NOW. I had a series of medical emergencies that started in late 2007 and kept me away from my house projects for 6 years. Even worse for my home my son moved away during my recuperation. Long story short my 14 Year old Grandson, who had spent the last 6 years watching Grandpa progress to a wheelchair life, was my only helper. We started, again, stripping the flaking paint from the eve line of our home. We pressure washed it and ultimately scraped the wood clean. Then we followed the directions to the letter from the can. Using three gallon cans of Pewter with one gallon can of Colony Blue mixed to perfection. We put the one thin coat of the DeckOver coating on. The next day we put the second coat on the 2” x 6” Fascia boards covering the rafter tails around the entire house. It took a great deal of time prepping the wood compared to coating it. As you can see from the photos this product, with its ceramic component, is the closest, to being wood in a can, that I have ever seen. BEHR created a winner with this product. We used this coating on a surface that is at a 22 degree angle, and that created its own problems. If you have outdoor wood that needs rejuvenation this is the product for you. It really does bridge the cracks and nail holes that appear in outdoor wood!

Worked great for enclosed trailer floor
We painted the plywood floor on the inside of our enclosed cargo trailer with this paint, and so far it has been amazing. The trailer is used to haul anything from cars to tools, boxes and lawn mowers, so it takes a lot of abuse. The way this paint dried kind of reminds me of rubber, it really filled in holes and made a nice thick coat that has a kind of light texture which is great for traction (but not if your goal is a completely smooth finish on your deck).
We used this on new plywood so just had to make sure it was brushed off and clean, but I think older wood might take more prep time and more coats. We did two coats, and so far it has stood up great to having heavy things on it regularly. It turned out darker than we would have thought, so if you don't want a hot surface go with something lighter.

made old deck look much better
be careful when choosing color .would recommend trying sample first .the final color may be nothing like what you may have wanted. I had an old deck and replaced a lot of boards before starting. even so the ones that I left were still pretty rough and covering them with this paint was not an easy job. found it went quicker getting down on hands and knees and using a brush did first coat and now will be doing second coat with the color I wanted

Waste of Time, Effort and Money!
I bought this product hoping it would live up to its claims
it was like painting with toothpaste but the result looked good. However after following all of the steps prescribed, (stripping, washing and drying) the product started to peel after just one season. I dont mean crack I mean peel off in sheets. for the most part the entire deck surface was bare after my toddler swept it. Does not last. not worth the money unless you want to peel and reapply each year and always have chunks of the material in your yard for the rest of your life. ABSOLUTE GARBAGE

Hi there,
Thanks for taking the time to review our Advanced DeckOver. I'm sorry to hear about the peeling on your deck after one season. To fix it, I recommend removing the peeling coating, cleaning with our All-In-One Wood Cleaner to promote adhesion, and reapplying our DeckOver following the spread rate on the label.

Dosen't hold up to foot traffic
I used this on a set of wood steps entering into the house. It looked very good when first applied but began to peel within a few months. I applied the and prepped as noted on the product container. I note that several others have had the same problem in prior reviews. t

Hi there,
Thanks for taking the time to review our Advanced DeckOver. I'm sorry to hear about the peeling on your deck, but I'm happy to help get your project back on track.
Unfortunately, our DeckOver cannot be removed by a chemical stripper, so to fix it, I recommend removing any peeling spots by scraping or sanding. Then sand smooth the edges of the remaining DeckOver on the surface and clean with our All-In-One Wood Cleaner. Once dry, you can touch up the bare spots, and apply another full coat for color uniformity.

Very durable
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a big, muti-level deck with a full flight of stairs. I was staining every other year, until I used Deckover. With the exception of some touch-up work, I haven’t stained for about ten years! Incredible!
