I spend a couple hundred dollars on this product spent weeks doing preparation washing, some sanding, filling cracks 3 times to fill followed directions EXACTLY, it took forever to prep according to directions. The product didn't even last one season. Anywhere there was a crack the product lifted from the deck in large areas. A chair scratched the paint and I didn't repair it the next day it rained and area around the scratch peeled in an area 4 inches by 12 inches. This same failure occured in many places and now I have to remove all this crap and redo my deck. This is a great disappointment as I have used Behr products for years on several houses on the siding, inside on all walls and always been a good company but this product is crap DO NOT BUY.

Not recommended if you have dogs! We completely sanded our deck before applying the DeckOver/Slate Gray and did two coats. A few days later, we let the dogs on the deck and it's all scratched up. They had their nails recently clipped, too.

We regret to hear of the negative experience you have had with our product and we would like to help.In reading your review, it sounds like the coating scratched up easily when your dogs went on the deck. To fix this, we recommend sanding the affected areas, cleaning with the All-In-One Wood Cleaner and touching up. The coating takes about 3 days to cure, and once cured you should not keep experiencing this issue. A customer care representative has reached out to you directly to help and also provide some tips.

Followed the directions without exception. Applied this product on 08/31/2013 (temp mid-80s) wood was not hot to touch and it was not applied in direct sun. I am putting on a new coat in late June 2017. I believe surface prep is key, as is allowing the wood to dry completely before applying this product. Mixing it with a high speed drill with a drum mixer attachment is big factor too. Also mixing it every hour seems to ensure the ingredients continue to be well blended . I like to use the brush versus a roller for the first coat -- takes a lot more time, but I coat my 800 sq foot deck over the course of several days. (usually three hours per day). High traffic area and top railing surface requires more attention and yearly touch-ups, but that was more cautionary versus a required action.
First two photos are before/after pics from 2013. The next two are what the deck looks like today. I'll apply a second coat with a roller.

My deck had not been painted or treated for more than 6 years. Cracks and hail damage. Two coats of this product did exactly what is advertised. Make sure you follow directions and apply as indicated on the label. Wonderful result and very pleased with the outcome.

I was not impressed
The product went on as advertised and did cover more than I thought. It looked really nice for a week or so.
Problem is I ordered in Sage which is lighter color and any dirty foot prints show bad. I thought it would just wash off but after 4 weeks I tried scrubbing the deck off and the foot prints will not come up. I used a good floor cleaner and medium brush but foot prints will not come off. I would not recommend this product for anyone with dogs or children who track dirt.

Complete disappointment and waste of money
After replacing some wood and following all the instructions on cleaning and preparing the surface with the recommended products by the company, I find myself frustrated by the unappealing look of peeling paint and the thought of having to redo the entire deck. The product is really expensive and I thought the cost would justify having the deck look nice and that would last a few years. Not even a full 24 months later and my deck is a mess!

Hi CK1451 - Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about the peeling on your deck after only 24 months! To fix the finish, I recommend sanding down the peeling areas to remove the loose coating, cleaning the bare wood, then touching up with more DeckOver (or applying 2 new coats if the peeling is happening to most of the surface). I've also reached out to you via email to make sure your project is taken care of. Thanks again for sharing your experience with us, and I hope to hear back from you soon! - Sara

Do not buy this product unless you like extra work
We followed the instructions to the “T”. It did what it said. Filled crackes and made the deck look smoother. Looked great. Even got my brother to do his deck too with this product. After a few months it started to bubble and peel. Now I need the try and power wash all this stuff off my deck. I hate wasting money but I hate wasted time even more. You buy a superior product thinking that is what you are getting. My brother’s deck is doing the same thing.

Thank you for reviewing Behr DeckOver. I'm terribly sorry to hear about the bubbling and peeling issues you and your brother are having, as it certainly isn't what we want our customers to go through. I'd love to help as best as possible.
The loose DeckOver can be removed with a floor sander/grinder or a power washer. Home Depot usually has great options available. After removing the loose areas and cleaning with Behr All-in-One Wood Cleaner, the surface should dry for at least 24 hours in dry weather before recoating. If there are DeckOver remnants left, they can be topcoated.
I emailed you directly to follow up and I look forward to assisting you.
