Answer This Question
A: Hi JIMMAY,
Thanks for taking an interest in DeckOver! It’s a great product but as it turns out, isn’t recommend for wood paneling. Main reason being that wood paneling is usually glossy, and DeckOver can’t properly adhere. Instead, I recommend sanding your siding and filling in cracks with something like paintable caulk. You can then prime with our Multi-Surface Primer & Sealer and paint over it with a flat paint which hides surface imperfections.
I hope this helps! Kind regards, Doris

One Star because I have to give at least one star. I went through 7 gallons of this paint on a basic deck and rails. I put two coats of it on, which I wasn't expecting because it is as thick as mud. Less than 6 months, it's already chipping and peeling off. It's expensive since it takes a lot to cover small areas and it doesn't last at all. I wouldn't suggest this paint to anyone.

Revitalizes Weathered Deck
In the before pictures, you can see that the weather had really deteriorated our decking. The original deck paint could not hold up to the sun and the weather, and the wood had split in many locations.
Prior to application, we scrubbed the decking with an all purpose cleaner, and pressure washed to remove the cleaner and loose paint.
The application of the Behr Deck Over was fairly straight forward when applied per the instructions. I do not recommend applying in the direct sunlight on a warm afternoon. The first coat tended to dry faster than we could apply the material.
the second coat was applied early in the morning before the sun hit the deck. It went on much smoother than the first coat. The pictures show the deck following the second coat. We will be applying a third coat, since we have enough left over.
My only "Con" is that the paint shows the footprints and traffic dirt in a relatively short period of time. After a light mopping, the dirt and footprints came right off.

Good Coverage
Using Behr Premium DeckOver on weathered wood, I found that it has good coverage qualities without a critical need for primer. It appears that a second coat may result in slightly better performance, which would indicate a need for primer on raw weathered wood. However, the results without primer for my purpose is excellent. The Silver Gray color is close to the color of new concrete, making this a good choice for painting that material. I'm working on a project now to repaint concrete steps and will report on the results at a later date. For now, without the benefit of how this paint performs over time, I can recommend this product.

Waste of Time, Effort and Money!
I bought this product hoping it would live up to its claims
it was like painting with toothpaste but the result looked good. However after following all of the steps prescribed, (stripping, washing and drying) the product started to peel after just one season. I dont mean crack I mean peel off in sheets. for the most part the entire deck surface was bare after my toddler swept it. Does not last. not worth the money unless you want to peel and reapply each year and always have chunks of the material in your yard for the rest of your life. ABSOLUTE GARBAGE

Thanks for taking the time to review our Advanced DeckOver. I'm sorry to hear about the peeling on your deck after one season. To fix it, I recommend removing the peeling coating, cleaning with our All-In-One Wood Cleaner to promote adhesion, and reapplying our DeckOver following the spread rate on the label.

Dosen't hold up to foot traffic
I used this on a set of wood steps entering into the house. It looked very good when first applied but began to peel within a few months. I applied the and prepped as noted on the product container. I note that several others have had the same problem in prior reviews. t

Hi there,
Thanks for taking the time to review our Advanced DeckOver. I'm sorry to hear about the peeling on your deck, but I'm happy to help get your project back on track.
Unfortunately, our DeckOver cannot be removed by a chemical stripper, so to fix it, I recommend removing any peeling spots by scraping or sanding. Then sand smooth the edges of the remaining DeckOver on the surface and clean with our All-In-One Wood Cleaner. Once dry, you can touch up the bare spots, and apply another full coat for color uniformity.

Very durable
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a big, muti-level deck with a full flight of stairs. I was staining every other year, until I used Deckover. With the exception of some touch-up work, I haven’t stained for about ten years! Incredible!

Complete disappointment and waste of money
After replacing some wood and following all the instructions on cleaning and preparing the surface with the recommended products by the company, I find myself frustrated by the unappealing look of peeling paint and the thought of having to redo the entire deck. The product is really expensive and I thought the cost would justify having the deck look nice and that would last a few years. Not even a full 24 months later and my deck is a mess!

Hi CK1451 - Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about the peeling on your deck after only 24 months! To fix the finish, I recommend sanding down the peeling areas to remove the loose coating, cleaning the bare wood, then touching up with more DeckOver (or applying 2 new coats if the peeling is happening to most of the surface). I've also reached out to you via email to make sure your project is taken care of. Thanks again for sharing your experience with us, and I hope to hear back from you soon! - Sara

Do not buy this product unless you like extra work
We followed the instructions to the “T”. It did what it said. Filled crackes and made the deck look smoother. Looked great. Even got my brother to do his deck too with this product. After a few months it started to bubble and peel. Now I need the try and power wash all this stuff off my deck. I hate wasting money but I hate wasted time even more. You buy a superior product thinking that is what you are getting. My brother’s deck is doing the same thing.

Hi Sep13,
Thank you for reviewing Behr DeckOver. I'm terribly sorry to hear about the bubbling and peeling issues you and your brother are having, as it certainly isn't what we want our customers to go through. I'd love to help as best as possible.
The loose DeckOver can be removed with a floor sander/grinder or a power washer. Home Depot usually has great options available. After removing the loose areas and cleaning with Behr All-in-One Wood Cleaner, the surface should dry for at least 24 hours in dry weather before recoating. If there are DeckOver remnants left, they can be topcoated.
I emailed you directly to follow up and I look forward to assisting you.
