A:  Hello tom, Thanks for your question. Pots of plants can be placed on the coating after the 72-hour cure time. Getting some incidental water splashing from watering the plants is okay. Just to reduce the wear on the coating, though, you might consider wiping or using a squeegee to remove the standing water whenever possible. Well wishes for your project!

Bought this product (Deckover Redwood Naturaltone) aout two years ago and had to repaint after each winter. I pressure washed and treated wood with wood cleaner as instructed before applying product. Product does not hold up well under moist conditions as the lumber expands, paint cracks and then chips. This product does not deserve the Behr product name and needs to be reformulated to penetrate lumber better or needs to be used with a primer that seals and waterproofs wood before applying the Deckover; this product is too thick and does not bond to the wood.

We have had a sturdy, long lasting deck for over 25 years. Based on tv ads and our past experience with indoor Behr products, we decided it was time to take a break from the semi-annual staining ad re-sealing that goes along with keeping the wood attractive and healthy. Deckover has turned out to be the biggest disappointment of all our DIY experiences. While the deck is still solid, it has become a hideous mess of peeling and cracking (oddly enough, almost exclusively on the horizontal deck surface). The most frustrating part is that the peeling is the worst in the areas we felt we had the best coverage. Only three seasons out, fully 50% of the deck surface looks like it has been neglected for many many years. Do yourself a favor and stick to the tried and true stain and seal and by all means, stay away from the expense and disappointment of this product.

We regret to hear of the negative experience you have had with our product and we would like to help. In reading your review, it sounds like your stain is cracking and peeling off your deck. As the manufacturer, this is not something we want our customers to experience with our product. To fix your issue, we recommend removing all the loose stain before cleaning your deck with our All-In-One Wood Cleaner, touching up the bare spots, and doing an overall recoat to reseal your surface. If you’d prefer to remove the stain from your deck, we suggest sanding the coating off using a floor sander. A customer care representative has reached out to you directly to help and also provide some tips. Behr

Not very happy with this product. We followed all the instructions prepping the deck and applied as directed. It looked great just in time for a large influx of guests. It seemed good all this winter but as spring came, i saw some spots peeling up. I didn't think it was a big deal at first and maybe some touchup work was needed. The peeling got worse and worse and now I will have to spend a lot more time trying to remedy this and I am not even sure how. The rails and spindles are not too bad but the floor is awful!

We are sorry to hear about your experience. In reading your review, it sounds like the product started peeling in the spring. The best solution would be to remove the loose coating, clean the surface with our All-In-One Wood Cleaner, and apply 2 new coats. Preparation is key, prepare the entire surface according to label instructions. Apply at least 2 coats (75 sq. ft. per gallon), with 4-6 hour dry time between coats. Be sure the coats are not too thin. Additional dry time may be needed in cooler temperatures and higher humidity. Coat as many accessible sides as possible. Including the board ends and in-between boards. A customer care representative has reached out to you directly to help and also provide some tips to get your project back on track. Behr

                      Bad product do not use
Bought deck over to finish 22 year old treated lumber 14'x20' deck Wood was pretreated and cleaned as per instructions on the container and two coats were applied per instructions. After one winter the finish started to peel and crack. There were cracks in the wood (1/16th in width) which were filled with the deck over, however it looks like the finish cracked by the cracks in the wood causing water to get under the finish and causing it to peel off in sheets. Totally disappointed in the product. Wast of time and money.

We regret to hear of the negative experience you have had with our product and we would like to help. In reading your review, it sounds like the DeckOver cracked and peeled after only one winter. As the manufacturer, this is not something we want our customers to experience with our product, especially so soon. It sounds like the majority of the surface is peeling, so the best solution would be to remove the loose coating, clean the surface, and apply 2 new coats. Thinking of using this? Don't!
I put this product on bare pressure treated (and aged) lumber. Two years later and it is peeling and flaking off. Now I have to figure out how to remove it so I can use a better product. My deck looks terrible and this product is to blame. Terrible.

Chipping and peeling off like crazy. Do not buy!!
Like the reviews that are good for this product, it looked great when initially applied. I did 2 coats and it looked amazing. Chipping and peeling is occurring all over my deck now (less than 2 years after applying). It looks terrible. What is still on there is impossible to clean. Any dirt that ends up on it is impossible to get off. What a waste of time and money. Stay away!!!

Do not put this stuff on your deck!
I bought this product to make a newer addition match the older part of my deck. It was time consuming and difficult to apply. We used 2 coats as recommended. It covered well and did mask the difference in age of the 2 sections. My first complaint was that it made the surface of the deck (which surrounds a pool) incredibly hot and impossible to walk on without shoes. Now after only 2 years the finish is cracking and peeling. It looks terrible. My once lovely deck is an eyesore! A waste of time and money that destroyed my deck, which was a considerable investment and can not be presently replaced.

the proof will be in longevity
We applied this over the weekend. For the deck I had to purchase an additional gallon for my deck, the color was true. The paint in this color has to be mixed, the only color available without mixing is grey. The product is very thick, it is hard to apply to get it on without it partially drying, but it just takes practice. Again, the proof will be in how long it lasts. I have confidence in Behr products, we followed directions exactly, my deck is still bare, so nothing heavy for a week. The finish is nice, I included a pic...just so you know, this color is more of an orangey undertone, not the reddish I was expecting, but I actually like this a lot better!! OH if you are sensitive to odors wear a mask it has a VERY strong ammonia smell!
