Premium BEHR INTERIOR?

Is Antique White #1823 available in Behr Satin interior, and if so at what cost?
Asked by: leelee
I used this in white straight out of the can to paint my pantry and closet doors and trim. It worked fine but if you need it tinted Home Depot has a huge selection of Behr paint colors that they can mix into this paint to the color you need. I recommend that you either visit your store or call them to find out if they have that color and if they can mix it for you. All I can do is recommend the paint as very good paint. It covers evenly and dries quickly. I only needed 2 coats to get a nice finish on my shelving. However I needed about 4 coats to cover the old pine trim and sliding doors of my closets to get that "manufactured/enameled" white evenness without any streaks. It was well worth the extra coats as it updated my home and made it much brighter.

Can this paint be used with a paint sprayer?

Asked by: Jeffjeff
Yes you can use it with a paint sprayer. It’s lays very nicely. Just make sure your spray gun is purged and your tips are fully clean. I also suggest frog painters tape to have clean line on all covered areas

I'm repainting my bathroom with the same color. Last painted was 4 years ago. Do I need a "Paint & Primer All In One", or do I even have to "Prime"?
Asked by: Ray
I wouldn't think you'd need a primer. I believe that is to ensure your old paint color doesn't show through. Since the colors are the same it is not an issue.

Customer Reviews

1 gal. #720E-2 Light French Gray Satin Enamel Low Odor Interior Paint and Primer in One is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 3255.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful, rich colors with excellent coverage I bought many gallons of this paint for the entire interior of my house. I painted all of the ceilings with the ceiling paint. The family room, kitchen and bedrooms, and bathrooms were all color coordinated. All of the closets I painted with a bright white semi gloss to reflect the true colors of clothing. I have no intention of painting the closets the next time I paint, therefore another reason to paint them white. The closets will match whatever colors the bedrooms are painted the next time. I am extremely satisfied with the entire job and with the quality of the paint. I was painting over a tan color and had no trouble covering it. I highly recommend this paint for any of your interior projects. Oh and by the way, the staff at Home Depot in the paint department were excellent to work with. They mixed my paint while I waited, were friendly and helpful with any question that I had. Thank you Behr and Home Depot! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thick paint, best coverage I don’t think I can count how many gallons of Beth paint I’ve purchased for my remodeling projects in our six houses- but it’s safe to say it’s in the hundreds! I have used about every paint on the market and Behr is by far my favorite and in my opinion, the best. I no longer will use other brands. I love that Behr has such good coverage, and it’s so nice and thick- some brands of paint are so thin that the paint slips everywhere. In my current project I am on my 4th gallon of “white corn “- a beautiful off white shade. I am working on painting every inch of woodwork that color- baseboards, doors, beadboard ceilings, wainscoting, door and window trim- it is absolutely beautiful! This was recommended for my trim. Want to paint all my trim and kitchen cabinets white. Started with 1 window trim and didn't like the way it went on. Thought it was because it was outside window and it's very cold outside. So now tried it on a small linen closet front in bath. Same thing. Was sticky, went on hard, uneven, dried super fast while putting it on. I let it cure 48 hrs between primer and 2 coats. Seemed like it doesn't cure. Looks uneven. Tapped it with a screw driver handle while adding the hardware back on and took paint off to the wood. That shouldn't happen. Won't be using it on anymore trim. Starting a new search for trim paint. Only problem is , no stores have samples of their specialty paint. This has a lifetiime warranty on it. Maybe I just got and old can.

Consumer Reports had rated Behr paints very highly (three of the top five), so I bought some of this and a gallon of 10% more expensive Valspar for some painting projects. After three coats, the print on the plywood was still readable through the Valspar. One coat of the Behr's provided better coverage than the three coats of Valspar. The attached photo shows one coat of Behr over the Valspar on the shelves. There is one coat of Behr over the previously painted wall (which has a previously unpainted stripe of paneling on the wall at the corner where the corner trim had been -- try to find it!). I've purchased over ten gallons of this paint to paint the inside of my house. It goes on smooth, seldom runs or drips, and washes cleanly out of the tools. Odor is negligible, and it's dry to touch in about half an hour. Because this paint behaves more like a primer than a topcoat, removing dried-on drips on ceramic tile and laminate flooring requires lots of elbow grease. Oopses come off easier if they're soaked with a soggy paper towel for ten minutes first. Heavy whipping cream and a plastic abrasive pad takes it off skin much faster than just soaking in water. This is my first five-star rating.

I am going to split this review into two sections - first, the advice from the Home Depot paint pro and second, the paint itself. First - I specifically asked the HD paint guy whether this would have good adhesion to surfaces painted about 20 years ago with a solvent based alkyd stain and clear coat. He replied it would be great. After the first coat over an entire set of cabinets, I found that this paint would very easily scratch off (even with a casual fingernail). Since cover was marginal, I put on another coat to see if that would help - it did not, and the paint would still easily scratch off and actually peel in sections of several square inches. I then looked at the can directions, which said to use a different product as a primer for alkyd painted surfaces. Moral of the story is do not believe the "paint pro" at Home Depot. As for the paint itself, it applied well, and looks good. I also used it on several door trims that were previously painted with acrylic paints with excellent results. My only problem with the paint itself is that it is a little soft. I resolved the scratching problem on the shelves by buying and putting in a thick vinyl shelf liner on each shelf. Cost me about $80, but essentially no way to strip all the cabinets where I had already painted with this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This paint was very easy to work with. You know... This paint was very easy to work with. You know how when you cut in sometimes and then roll the brushed part can look a little thin, well not with this paint, it was great. It definitely takes two coats to cover. I was going over white with a new paint color that was just a couple of shades darker than white (White Mocha). The finish coat turned out really nice. Two gallons and two coats for 750 square feet and I still had a quart left over seems like pretty good coverage. Paint dries quickly and the paint odor is practically non-existent.The satin we chose has a nice sheen, just enough to wash if dirty but not so bright as to show imperfections on your wall.

I have been a long time buyer of Behr Paint, and was sorely disappointed with the satin finish. The flash was very bad where the spackled joints were feathered into the drywall. The satin finish enhanced the joints, and can be seen through multiple coats. A disclaimer should be added to all satin paints stating that a separate primer should be used to avoid this flash. It did not meet my expectations unfortunately, and I do not have the budget to purchase new primer, and more paint, nor do I have the time to blow to re-do it.
