I'm using this the paint cabinets. I used a primer and the paint when on very "sticky" then when trying to blend it lifted of in placed that I had painted that were still wet!! It was a complete mess. Going to start over... How do I restart!? What did I do wrong??
Asked by: ineedHELP
Sorry about your poor painting experience, but don't feel too bad because every one of us has had a least one major "paint fail" during our lifetimes. Existing cabinets must be washed down thoroughly with TSP before even using a primer. Cabinets are commonly coated with a virtually invisible oily film from regular kitchen use. A TSP wash doesn't take that long and helps assure a clean surface. Then, after a thorough dry overnight (I usually put a small fan on the floor of the room where the cabinets are drying) you're almost ready to paint. Whether or not you choose to use a primer is up to you. I prefer to skip the separate primer these days in favor of a very light sand (220) to barely etch the surface, and then using the top of the line paint/prime product from any leading brand. I've had too many instances where the "one coat coverage" promise didn't fully materialize and two coats were actually required. In summary, four steps for me, warm TSP/warm water wipe down followed by a thorough dry, light but thorough surface etch using #220 or equivalent liquid product, finally two coats of top of the line paint/primer with thorough overnight dry in between. There is also special cabinet paint that you can acquire from specialty paint stores that is outstanding, although expensive. Big box stores also have cabinet paint but the quality can be hit and miss from my experience. Most painting "fails" fall into three categories, failure to properly prepare to do the job (applying paint is only around half the labor); getting in a hurry with the application or drying processes; and poor selection of paint and other application materials. Good luck with your repaint. I suggest you remove all paint/primer you can and return to step one. The best news is you'll never have to learn this lesson again! HEY HOME DEPOT...WE NEED YOUR HELP IN PUSHING BACK ON THE PAINT MANUFACTURERS REGARDING THE SIZE OF PRINT ON THE BACK OF THE CANS, INCLUDING THE INSTRUCTIONS. THEY ARE VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO READ THESE DAYS. Maybe the front label becomes a third of the paper, and the back side becomes two thirds, but in any even the instructions are critical. That's why I didn't suggest to this guy that he read the label and follow instructions...because it is often impossible!

If I'm using this paint on cabinets, can I sand it later if I want to change the color?

I hate it when people use latex (non sandable) paints on cabinets and furniture. If you (or someone else) want to change colors later, you have to strip it, vs just sanding it down a little and repainting. So... can this paint be sanded later or will it just gum up like latex? thanks!
Asked by: AZHomestead
Sanding will only bring out the color beneath what you've just applied, and is not a good way to change the color. Those using shabby chic painting techniques commonly prefer this "worn" look, but after light sanding will usually apply a wax or some other sealer.

Can you use this to paint over oil based paint?

Can you use this to paint over oil based paint?
Asked by: Jen
Hello Jen, Thank you for your interest in our products. Yes, our Marquee paint can used over an oil based paint. We would just recommend scuff sanding and cleaning the surface before painting. Best regards, Kevin

What is the difference, cameo white vs dutch white? What happened to ultra pure white? Are they all the same white?

Asked by: MAZ
Dutch white has more of a cold/greyish tint, where as cameo white has more of a warm/off-white/yellowish tint.

1 gal. #MQ3-32 Cameo White Semi-Gloss Enamel Low Odor Interior Paint and Primer in One is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 442.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don't Like the new Self-Priming I have used Behr Premium Plus (not ultra) from Home Depot for about 10 years now and never had a problem. I dont really like the new Self-Priming version. We've noticed that the finish is more tacky and doesn't harden as fast, so even like several days later the paint has not fully cured making it more likely to scratch/peel off if hit by something. This is not so good, when painting is usually the last thing you do on job, and the customer is "feeling" for a nice durable surface before he/she pays you. I guess this makes sense because the "self-priming" probably makes it bond better, but I've never had a problem with the old stuff with liquid sander or a good quality primer for glossy/semi-glossy surfaces. This problem is only on wood like trim, doors, and cabinets. I usually use flat paint on the walls, so there's not a problem with bonding or curing in that situation. The new flat paint is fine(no preference). I just liked the old semi-gloss more. Behr should of just gave the customer another option and still made the old formula available.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best latex semi-gloss paint around I've used Behr Premium Plus Interior Semi-Gloss Enamel in kitchens and on wood millwork (baseboards; wainscoting; doors; doorway trim) for the last 25 years, and refuse to use anything else. It goes on smoothly, cleans up easily, and once it has cured, is hardwearing and easy to clean. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional Spread and Coat I am a long-time Behr fan. Best value for the money. I use the same paints for every application and am never disappointed. This product is great for trim and doors. Two coats and it sparkles. Years of wear. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for the multitasker ! I love Behr paints - recently I’ve been using interior and exterior paints from them and they have been just beautiful. The colors exceed my expectations every time - we have recently been renovating our home for the first time and I’ve been able to paint finally ! Behr paints are great for quick jobs- they coat evenly and blend so smoothly. I’m a messy painter so I get covered normally even when I’m trying to be careful but these paints wash off the skin quickly; which has helped me as I’m finding myself painting rooms and running errands and working all in the same day- quick clean up is a huge plus ! I always recommend Behr to anyone needing to repaint. Always consistent, thank you Behr! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremely unhappy and tired I used this product on a bare wood coffee table. The paint, after 2 months is still tacky. I spent hours sanding it back down to the bare wood again then primed the top letting it dry for two days. The primer was not tacky. I put a coat of the semi-gloss on yesterday (did not cover the primer). Today it is still tacky and requires a second coat. This is the worst experience I have had with paint. I am going to have to sand it down AGAIN and purchase another brand of paint. I’ve always used Behr products with excellent results. The entire interior of my house is painted with Behr paint. I have double front doors primed and ready for paint and I am extremely leery about purchasing anymore Behr products.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from PAINT THAT LASTS I bought this for the first time as I was doing kitchen cabinets and wanted it to last. It does hold up well. It is thicker than normal paint and felt the application was harder to work with, but again it was my first time using it. I just bought white and was covering up antique white so I can't say about covering up any color behind it. The Home Depot paint representative told me a separate primer always works best when covering up any color...so I did not use it for that --I did not want to go over my kitchen cabinets twice and it was perfect for that. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I have been using behr paint for many years and will continue to use it. I have tried many different paints but find i like behr the best. It is a little more expensive for an amateur painter but it is worth the extra cost. This paint has good coverage even though i always do two coats (my preference). It dries fast, which i like so i dont have to wait to give it a second coat. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
