What color is flat ?

I want to paint my kitchen and bathroom an off white color.
Asked by: Kis6
Flat is a term, which means solid ink coverage, the color can be anything dark, neutral, Blue etc. It is just another word for solid

what is the difference between ceiling paint and regular paint?

I see that ceiling paint is less expensive but does that mean its also poorer quality. Can I use regular wall paint on my ceiling?
Asked by: hatethatpopcorn
Ceiling paint is basically a flat finish white paint with little washability(since ceilings usually don't get fingerprints and dirt smudges it doesn't have to be too durable).

I have painted the ceiling twice trying to get rid of the blotches and streaks that have resulted from using this paint. How do I fix it?

Asked by: Sandy
It sounds like you will have to primer it first if the stains and blotches are that stubborn, or maybe paint it with kills oil base first.

No matter the nap or roller material, this stuff goes on thick and wets out like 80 grit sandpaper. I'm guessing this is what they mean by "hides flaws"... So if you've got an old house with some less than stellar ceiling surfaces, this is the product for you... If your ceilings are in good shape and you just want a color change, save yourself the headache and just go with some premium ultra. I've done half the room and I'm cutting my losses. I'm disappointed quite frankly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Plan on 3 coats just to cover an existing flat white ceiling I am 25 year professional contractor, and have 30+ years of painting experience. This garbage took 4 gallons to cover <300' of smooth flat white ceiling that was painted just 3 years prior. PVA primer would've covered much better, and looked nicer, than this watered down junk.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for Ceilings, Unless Popcorn or Textured I was sold this by Homedepot associate in paint department. After the second coat and ceiling still looking terrible I read the can completely. It says on the can that the paint is for Popcorn and/or textured ceilings. I bought the 1 gal can of Ultra with primer and got a beautiful looking ceiling after 2 coats. So for an old guy who doesn’t like painting I ended up painting my ceiling 4 times. $27 for 2 gal Paul of paint and I got what I paid for.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not cover... AT ALL! I used this paint over bare drywall, and it absolutely refuses to cover in anything less than 6 coats. I also used two coats of Behr sealing primer and you still see the drywall showing through. This is garbage paint. Do not buy unless you are repainting over a clean white surface. It does leave a beautiful finish... eventually.

The surface being painted over is newly installed drywall that was taped and floated, one coat of primer, and then spray-textured to a knockdown finish. I lightly sanded and brushed the knockdown to remove all the crumbly stuff, then I painted the ceiling with this paint. It covered it pretty well with just one coat, but in bright light I could distinguish overlaps at the edges. I was fully expecting this as hardly any paint will do one-coat coverage anymore. The second coat went on way smoother than the first one and the result was excellent. I have many more ceilings to paint and if they are going to be white, I will be using this paint.

It did a wonderful job with the entire ceiling except the water stain we had. In fairness, the more expensive version lists "stain blocker" while this does not, so the product performed as expected, I just chose the wrong product. Being stubborn, I did cover the water stains with this product, but it took five coats (only on the water stain, not the entire ceiling). Splashing and dripping was very minimal and really only occurred when I would try to paint too fast or pressed too hard. Coverage area was as advertised. 2 gallon was the perfect size for my project, and a cost savings over individual gallons. Overall I was very pleased.

This paint was disappointing, both in its coverage and its look when it dried. The ceiling had been originally primed and second coated with Behr Ceiling 5 years ago and this was supposed to be a quick cover up. It took 3 coats to get it to cover and dry properly. We vacuumed and wiped the ceiling beforehand, applied the paint with a high quality 12" roller cover and made sure not to over-roll it. We wound up having to use almost 4 gallons to cover a 350 sq. ft. space. For the price and look we would have been better off just using primer again.
