Questions & Answers

Will this cover midnight blue semigloss?

I have Midnight blue (almost black) semi gloss and also a dark Mustard semi gloss on the walls? Will one coat cover these colors?
Asked by: Kat
Semi gloss, maybe not, I would put two coats on. Do it once and it's done forever.

I'm using this the paint cabinets. I used a primer and the paint when on very "sticky" then when trying to blend it lifted of in placed that I had painted that were still wet!! It was a complete mess. Going to start over... How do I restart!? What did I do wrong??

Sorry about your poor painting experience, but don't feel too bad because every one of us has had a least one major "paint fail" during our lifetimes. Existing cabinets must be washed down thoroughly with TSP before even using a primer. Cabinets are commonly coated with a virtually invisible oily film from regular kitchen use. A TSP wash doesn't take that long and helps assure a clean surface. Then, after a thorough dry overnight (I usually put a small fan on the floor of the room where the cabinets are drying) you're almost ready to paint. Whether or not you choose to use a primer is up to you. I prefer to skip the separate primer these days in favor of a very light sand (220) to barely etch the surface, and then using the top of the line paint/prime product from any leading brand. I've had too many instances where the "one coat coverage" promise didn't fully materialize and two coats were actually required. In summary, four steps for me, warm TSP/warm water wipe down followed by a thorough dry, light but thorough surface etch using #220 or equivalent liquid product, finally two coats of top of the line paint/primer with thorough overnight dry in between. There is also special cabinet paint that you can acquire from specialty paint stores that is outstanding, although expensive. Big box stores also have cabinet paint but the quality can be hit and miss from my experience. Most painting "fails" fall into three categories, failure to properly prepare to do the job (applying paint is only around half the labor); getting in a hurry with the application or drying processes; and poor selection of paint and other application materials. Good luck with your repaint. I suggest you remove all paint/primer you can and return to step one. The best news is you'll never have to learn this lesson again! HEY HOME DEPOT...WE NEED YOUR HELP IN PUSHING BACK ON THE PAINT MANUFACTURERS REGARDING THE SIZE OF PRINT ON THE BACK OF THE CANS, INCLUDING THE INSTRUCTIONS. THEY ARE VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO READ THESE DAYS. Maybe the front label becomes a third of the paper, and the back side becomes two thirds, but in any even the instructions are critical. That's why I didn't suggest to this guy that he read the label and follow instructions...because it is often impossible!

1 gal. #750D-6 Lemon Pepper Satin Enamel Interior Paint and Primer in One is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 1629.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Choice by Far I painted my kitchen and i loved this paint. It covers nicely and gives a smooth finish. Its also not runny which had been a problem with all the other paints i have bought. Im only buying this paint from now on [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very satisfied I used Behr Marquee in a seafoam color (not sure if this is the formal name) in two rooms...one was a very dark terracotta color and the other was actually a VERY knotty pine room. I did have to prime over the pine room knowing that knots would come through eventually, but I would have done that first with any paint I used. Both rooms look gorgeous...with only one coat to each. This was done on a house we were renovating to put on the market (my mom's)...and eventually we will be looking for a new home for us and I absolutely plan to use this paint (maybe even the same color) when we do! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Paint We chose Marquee Satin Enamel to paint our kitchen. The paint went on very easily, both with a roller and a brush. It covered the existing paint in one coat and was very forgiving- left no brush strokes or other signs of my amateur status. We painted the whole kitchen with less than 2 gallons and have received many compliments on the color and the finish. Behr Marquee is my go-to paint from now on! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought 24 Samples of this Paint! I stand by Behr paints. Just purchased a new home and it was plastered with the worst flat paint ever invented. I won't say the company's name but the paint would scuff and chip so easily. I bought a variety of samples, mainly the MARQUEE interior satin enamel. So far I am in love! My walls look amazing and I am looking forward to the big project! I will only use Behr from now on. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My go to paint I own several rental properties and have successfully flipped and sold 5 houses. I tried more expensive paints in one and it actually took more coats to cover then this! Now I just drive a bit further and get Behr paint to start with! Rated 1 out of 5 by from Streaks! I have used Behr paints in the past and never had a problem until I recently painted a white wall with a light tan color. After painting the small wall, I could see light streaks running through it. The next morning, I painted again and still had streaks. I painted a third time and the streaks were gone. I had to use almost an entire gallon of paint for a 9 x 6 wall. I’ve painted many walls and never had this happen. Almost afraid to do the rest of the room after this experience.
