Questions & Answers

Does the white have to be tinted with a white pigment? I used this on my trim and it took THREE coats.

Asked by: Mo89
The white does not need to be tinted with any pigment. I use this when painting a lot of cabinets and such where customers want a satin finish. I find that even over bare wood, I will do about three coats. The first coat is a lighter coat, just to get a base on there. The second coat provides total coverage on the piece. The third coat fills in any areas that are missed, and gives a nice uniform finish overall. There are really no paints out there, unless being put on heavier, that will give complete coverage in one coat when going over a contrasting color, or bare wood.

I'm using this the paint cabinets. I used a primer and the paint when on very "sticky" then when trying to blend it lifted of in placed that I had painted that were still wet!! It was a complete mess. Going to start over... How do I restart!? What did I do wrong??

Sorry about your poor painting experience, but don't feel too bad because every one of us has had a least one major "paint fail" during our lifetimes. Existing cabinets must be washed down thoroughly with TSP before even using a primer. Cabinets are commonly coated with a virtually invisible oily film from regular kitchen use. A TSP wash doesn't take that long and helps assure a clean surface. Then, after a thorough dry overnight (I usually put a small fan on the floor of the room where the cabinets are drying) you're almost ready to paint. Whether or not you choose to use a primer is up to you. I prefer to skip the separate primer these days in favor of a very light sand (220) to barely etch the surface, and then using the top of the line paint/prime product from any leading brand. I've had too many instances where the "one coat coverage" promise didn't fully materialize and two coats were actually required. In summary, four steps for me, warm TSP/warm water wipe down followed by a thorough dry, light but thorough surface etch using #220 or equivalent liquid product, finally two coats of top of the line paint/primer with thorough overnight dry in between. There is also special cabinet paint that you can acquire from specialty paint stores that is outstanding, although expensive. Big box stores also have cabinet paint but the quality can be hit and miss from my experience. Most painting "fails" fall into three categories, failure to properly prepare to do the job (applying paint is only around half the labor); getting in a hurry with the application or drying processes; and poor selection of paint and other application materials. Good luck with your repaint. I suggest you remove all paint/primer you can and return to step one. The best news is you'll never have to learn this lesson again! HEY HOME DEPOT...WE NEED YOUR HELP IN PUSHING BACK ON THE PAINT MANUFACTURERS REGARDING THE SIZE OF PRINT ON THE BACK OF THE CANS, INCLUDING THE INSTRUCTIONS. THEY ARE VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO READ THESE DAYS. Maybe the front label becomes a third of the paper, and the back side becomes two thirds, but in any even the instructions are critical. That's why I didn't suggest to this guy that he read the label and follow instructions...because it is often impossible!

I never had a problem. it was always the best paint you could buy regardless of the price or the store where I bought it. I recommended it to everyone I knew that had an upcoming paint job. I recently painted a bathroom from light blue to white. it took three coats. we painted our living room. it was light green and all we wanted to do was lighten it. light green over light green. two coats. when the can advertises primer in the paint, I don't expect this kind of watery coverage. when it says stain blocker, I expect it to cover even a similar color. very disappointing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What did Behr do to their paint I've been painting with Beth for over 20 years. I WAS a huge fan - until today. I purchased Behr Premium Ultra primer and paint in one. Three coats later, I can still see the medium blue color that i was trying to cover with a dark burnt orange. I can also still see clear as day the putty I used to patch nail holes. This was the worst paint and painting experience that I've ever had. I'm so disappointed that Behr has joined the ranks of so many other manufacturers who decide to reduce the quality of their product and continue to charge the same or more money...it's all about the profit. Sad to say that I won't be buying Behr again.

The coverage is amazing and it is incredibly durable. I painted a little shelf/bookcase for our children's playroom and so far it has stood the test of time. Toddlers constantly bumping toys against it, coloring on it and just all around abusing it, and the paint has yet to flake chip or show wear or damage in any way. The crayon was easy to clean off and it looks just as it did the day that I painted it. Easy to apply, durable, looks great and is fairly priced. I will continue to buy this paint in the future.

My biggest disappointment with the BEHR Marquee paint was that it is not a 1 coat paint. The Home Depot store informed me that the Warranty for the 1 coat only applied to certain colors. The Warranty on the paint can does not state this. While it seemed to do better as a 1 coat paint when rolling the walls we still found a lot of spots that needed a 2nd coat. As for trimming with a brush, there is no way 1 coat will do the job. This cost me a lot of extra time and money. This paint goes along way so check your coverage with 1 gallon first before buying more. Even though this paint did not live up to our expectations , it is still a pretty good paint when applied with rollers. At a third of the cost more you can decide for yourself whether it is worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Paint We painted our living room last year. We had never tried BEHR paint before. We decided to get the interior satin enamel deep base 7753. It's great that it's a stain-blocking and primer in one. We loved that the dry time was an hour and recoat time was 2 hours. We also loved that it has the extra protective shell. It's been a year now and the paint still looks fresh. We really love this paint and will continue to buy this brand for all our future projects. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My go to paint I own several rental properties and have successfully flipped and sold 5 houses. I tried more expensive paints in one and it actually took more coats to cover then this! Now I just drive a bit further and get Behr paint to start with! This was by far the most I've ever paid for paint - but probably evens out because I truly needed no more than one coat, and no primer! Love this paint. Goes on smooth (use a good quality roller) and makes an amateur's work look like that of a pro.

I've used Behr exclusively in my living room, bedroom, bathroom and hallways. I can say, hands down, this is the worst paint I've ever used. It has literally peeled off on every surface I've put it on. I wish I could get back the $300 I've spent on this garbage. As a side note, I've used the paint/primer combo. It does NOT cover well. I even talked to a Behr representative at the store who recommended using more primer, which I did and the paint still pealed off! I did prep the walls and even sanded several surfaces to see if there was better coverage and to see if the paint would stay on. It didn't. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PAINT.
