Questions & Answers

Is there a homeowner type paint sprayer that will spray this product without thinning it?

Asked by: Kenneth
I bought a Graco True Coat 360 airless sprayer, it handled my house with ease 1 quart at a time without thinning at all, the spray gun is about $160.00, well worth the money , beats my old Wagner power painter hands down, and it easier to clean afterward

Rain is expected in 24 hours. Can this Premium Plus Ultra be applied on my home within this timeline?
Asked by: Chet
Yes. It dries quickly. But put on thin and wait to do more coats until after the rain has ended.

Can I use this as a one coat application over raw surfaces?

Paint is peeling off. Intermixed with areas that are in still in tact. I know typically you would spot prime raw areas and then do a full top coat over everything. So basically the question is, can I get way with one coat without having to apply a second top coat with this product, primer- paint in one? What is the recommendation?
Asked by: Matt
If your finish is smooth, remove all the loose paint and fill or sand the rest smooth before applying primer coat. If you have a rough surface, remove all the old paint down to a nice finished rough surface before applying primer coat, as good as the pre-paint surface looks is as good as the finish surface will look, the paint coats, it doesn't fill surface texture... This product works as a "Stain-Blocker" and also a "Primer", and also a "Paint", but they ARE 3 separate applications... Today, more than ever before due to the youth of our lumber, EVERYTHING has to be "Protected", This product is an excellent "Protector" of your wood... Looks are important but protection is what KEEPS it looking good, so don't stop with good looks, apply 2 to 3 coats NOW, and another coat later, after your bad weather season is over every year, to replace what your bad weather did to the thickness of your original coats... The first coat is to prime... The second coat is either block wood bleed or paint... and the third is paint... If you have wood that bleeds through paint, then you need 3 coats, if not 2 will do, but understand, the first coat will soak in and create a bonding surface for the next coat, which becomes a bonding surface for the third... You will ALWAYS use more paint on the first coat than the following... If you use a 6" wienie roller, you can store the roller (not the roller frame) and brush in the paint can with the left over paint until next year, so touch ups don't require buying new brushes and rollers, make sure the roller and bristles are completely covered with paint so you don't get dry spots... After your bad weather season, wash off your painted surface with TSP in water, let dry and add another coat, if you have a smooth surface you can use a rag to wash it, if not a brush, be liberal with the TSP, it will clean and degrease the surface, to create a bondable surface for the new coat... If you maintain the paint protector, you will never have to scrape off peeling paint again... The Golden Gate Bridge, is never-not being painted... i.e. "protected"

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Difficult & time consuming I recently purchased Behr Premium Plus Ultra exterior semi-gloss white paint to paint the eves & outside trim on a customers home. Before painting I cleaned the entire area to be painted with a pressure washer. I have been painting since the 70's and have used several brands of paint, this paint is by far the worst that I have ever used. I had to stop every 30 minutes in order to clean out my brushes and had to soak my brushes each night in an expensive brush cleaner before I could use them again. The paint applies on the wood & aluminum surfaces like a paste or glue; it smears and does not spread good at all. Even though I am painting white on white, I had to apply at least two coats in order to cover properly. I will not make much profit on this job because of down time cleaning brushes and repainting surfaces that normally would cover in one coat. I will never use this product again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappointed I have used over a half gallon of Premium Plus Ultra paint for one single exterior Entry door. I have had to sand and re-paint over six times and still have not obtained a smooth application. First, I tried a foam roller and now a brush. Each time, the paint goes on gummy and dries too quickly. I have attempted to feather the brush strokes and still have not accomplished a successful finish. Previously, I have purchased Behr interior paint and have been pleased with the results. However, this particular paint (with the built in primer) has caused BIG headaches. Where does the "guarantee" fall in regards to this? Could I receive my money back?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Exterior House Used this same product 16 years ago. Best ever. Painted a beige over a dark brown with ONE coat. Turned out excellent and lasted 16 years. Fast forward 18 years and I painted my new house with the same product and what a disappointment. Painted a bright red over a dull off white and it took two coats. Painted the trim white over an off white color and it took THREE coats. I thought over the years with new technology things got better, evidently not so with Behr paint. After using it the first time no one could have talked me into using any other paint, after this second paint job I will use something different. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used this product 2 years ago, ...on the afternoon sun side of my home. Still vibrate, BEHR PAINTS go on smooth. Do the prep. Before you paint get it right the quality lasts. Spends less cause I prefer BEHR. My husband hates to paint but with your product he don't have to do more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product. I have been using Behr paints for years. I have always been satisfied with the quality and coverage of Behr paint. I didn't have good luck with spraying the marquee on aluminium siding though. It seemed the marquee is such a thick paint that no matter how fine a mist I tried to apply I encountered sagging. I have used the marquee on several other applications and found it to be an excellent paint. I wound up using PREMIUM PLUS ULTRA® Exterior Semi-Gloss Enamel which worked great on aluminium siding and covered in one coat. Behr has excellent customer service. I was given a full refund for the marquee purchase. Thanks Behr for a great product. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Quite Right I recently painted my front door with the Behr Ultra Exterior semi-gloss paint and was disappointed. I was hoping for a smoother, more glossy finish. I applied many coats using various brushes and foam rollers and was unable to make the finish smooth. There was also no detectable gloss as expected. Now, I will try another product for the shutters.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dismal Coverage Streaky coverage even after several coats. I purchased this paint to avoid this very labor wasting problem. When painting; collums, handrails and espicially spindels you really want single coat coverage. Now I don't know what I am going to do. Do I keep applying this paint or do I bail on this overpriced / underperforming " stuff "...and if I do, can I apply another product over this one without sanding? As of this posting it has been less than 48 hours since I "painted". Question: Am I good to go with another 100% acrylic product over the Behr in the next couple of days? How do I have the guarantee honored? By the way, I painted white over white that had been cleaned with TSP applied with a pressure washer, then pressure washed with straight water two days prior.
