No you can try to clean the area or buy a new one.
Defective as in how long ?? HD has a 90 day policy and I’m sure the manufacturer has a 1 year warranty.
I have only used Melaleuca products to clean mine, I have never had staining with it. I use "Tub and Tile" on the outside of my toilet - I spray it on and let it sit few minutes, then I simply wipe off with a damp cloth. I use "Safe & Mighty" in the bowl, I squirt it in let it sit 5 minutes then use a bowl cleaner brush. I have 6 boys and 2 girls so I get the teenage pee stain. I recommend you have your cleaners change what ever product they are using so it does not happen in the future.

Warranty is 12 months.
We have had three seats with left hinge bust soon after buying it. We can buy a set of hinges at their site if you can figure out all the questions they ask but it wasn't worth waiting. We just went and bought new seat and took the financial hit 3 times in less than 2 years. I think they have a problem but I can't speak for them at all. I am a consumer not manufacturer. Our left hinge broke each time. Snap in half and made a bang noise as it broke. We just took the seat off and put on a new one after parting with around $50 plus dollars each time. Got to have a seat each day for sure in our home! :) :).

Bemis Manufacturing offers a one-year manufacturing defect warranty that is handled through the location of purchase. Please return your defective seat to the store for immediate warranty replacement. A receipt is not needed. Place your item in a clear plastic bag. The retail store does not have to keep your used seat in the store or handle it in any way. They will simply view the damage and give you a new warranty seat sending your broken one home with you. Our just did the same and we just bought it back in October 2018 and now one of the hinges just completely broke because of how it was leaning to one side.
