one plastic thing about 1.5"and a tiny donut plastic..what is first piece that goes onto the bolt; directions not clear. which is the nut

Asked by: Robot
The tiny plastic donut goes over the bolts after you slide them through the seat brackets, but before you insert them in the holes in your toilet. It centers the bolts in the holes. Then the weird nuts go on from the underside

The first broke after about 6 months at the hinge for the seat. Of course with Home Depot's 90 day return policy we were out of luck. Thought maybe the seat was cracked or had been damaged and my wife really likes the "slow close" feature so I stupidly bought a second. It lasted maybe a little longer - 8 months. Now it's broken at the hinge as well. The simple truth is that these hinges are cheaply make plastic moldings and simply will not last.

The instructions were poor and did not specify the tools needed. The instructions have you tighten the nuts until the lower portion of the nut breaks off. It took a long time to get this to break while kneeling in an awkward position to reach underneath. The previous toilet seat was much easier to install because you could do the tightening with screws on top of the toilet seat hinges.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good seat, easy to clean I used to buy $10-15 wood composite seats. I've been through many and all of them absorb urine. I have 2 boys and after a month of use the seats had yellow and brown spots on under side that bleach did not remove. This seat is plastic and it is not stained yet. I wipe it as often as I wiped the "wooden" ones and it is still looking new after a month of use. The seat is also quite comfortable to sit on and fits my toilet perfectly. Closes quetly - both the seat part and the cover. It comes with hardware that is packed in a small bag and appears to be pretty tight and reasonably good. I plan to buy one more for another bathroom.

I really like to slow close feature of this seat, and, the fact that it is plastic rather than wood. However, the underside of the seat is difficult to clean thoroughly because of the ridges there. I now have another model of Bemis seat that is plastic too, but the bottom is smooth. I unfortunately, had to sacrifice the slow close feature for a more easy to clean seat.

Purchase another in within 2 weeks the same thing happen. I guess that what I get for low price vs quality. Can't find the receipt for the first one. But I have it for the second one plan in returning it.

The lid will not close down, its slow close feature keeps it about a half inch in the air. Push it down and it springs back up a little. Too thin and cheaply molded. Will shop more carefully from now on.
