Q:What is the total travel distance for the press, or rather how far does it protrude from the crossbar, and what is the distance from the crossbar to the base/floor? I'm referring to the crossbar that the press passes through.

          only Home Depot had one!
Out of stock at Harbor Freight, their product looks similar, but I was pleased to find one of these presses through Home Depot and I just got free delivery! Some reviews say this is a toy...but at 47 pounds unassembled I beg to differ. I plan on a couple of modifications to enable it to do what I want which is to trim mineral specimens. On the end of the push rock, I will have a carbide edged chisel welded on just small enough to pass through the guide holes. And on one of the press plates, I will do the same. So I will have 2 chisel edges I can line up when trimming rock. Also, I will take it to my local welding shop and have them wire weld the critical joints to remove any possible play in the system. Presently I have it here and all laid out for assembly. I will go to Home Depot and look for the chisels I want. They will not be cheap, but something like this built from scratch would cost me over $500, mostly due to labor costs. I expect to have it finished for around $200. Before Covid, there were a couple of companies that built somewhat similar trimmers but the prices were astronomical. And now they are not even making them! So this is my solution! This will be small enough that I can have it on a cabinet in my basement! There are a couple of assembly videos on YouTube, so check them out!

Once assembled, the press works fine, however ! The assembling instructions are the most ridiculous I’ve ever seen, makes ikea instructions look easy and perfect. You literally get a LIST of items. Home Depot customer service in store took 15 minutes of asking around, then finally told me to You Tube it !!! - which I did, of course the video is old, the product has changed, but thank god I’m technical so I managed. Like I said, the product is just fine. But if you’re not technical, you won’t be able to assemble this ! Adding a photo - hoping it will help you understand the assembly (even that’s not available from the manufacture)

Compact bench-top press is great for small projects. Plenty of pressing power with the 6 ton hydraulic jack that is easily removed for lighter press mobility. Quality steel construction for the price. Fairly easy to assemble but a little tricky mounting the a-frame to the lower body by yourself but would be easy with a second person helping. Took one star away due to the lack of lack of tight clearance on the shaft's thrust openings allowing for a little sideways movement slop of the shaft.

Works great for my projects. I had to have the handle cut in half since it was so long and it works better for me now.

Worked for me straightening metal brackets on a car I am restoring. Seems to be better designed than other presses out there, no leaks from jack.

It needs very careful alignment requiring a level and a rubber mallet to knock the frame into proper position while all bolts/nuts are partially but substantially tightened. You will need to buy 8 - 8M and 2 - 10M lock washers to insure everything stays aligned. These really should be included in the package. Unfortunately the press plate is not flat, and the alignment needs to take this into account in order to have the press rod (which is attached to the bottom of the press plate) vertical and centered.
