I like my B/D electric weed cutter however when I was using it, it just stopped working. The string is very short and has not automatically extended. Can you give me some answers on troubleshooting?
Asked by: ML
Yes, take it back to Home Depot and buy the HomeLite brand for half the cost... The B/D trimmer you are speaking has issues with the automatic feed - Poorly designed!

Does it include the String? How often should I change the String for a 10x20 ft lawn? Thank you in advance!

Asked by: SSS
Yes, it comes pre-loaded with line. Grab extra while you're in the store. Better to have it than not. Line life depends on what you'll be trimming/edging. Edging will burn through more string than just trimming a level area, as will trimming around wire/cyclone fencing, woody stems etc. I use mine to trim branch tips/shrubs/vines Just depends on the beating you give the line. This is why I use .095 line vs the recommended.080.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't do it :( Worst product/tool I've purchased in a long time...Disappointed in Black and Decker for putting this product out, and Home Depot for having it on the shelves---yes, it is that bad. I admit that I did read the reviews before purchasing, but discounted the negative reports---couldn't be that bad. I was wrong! The problem is the auto line feeder... Did not make it 50ft before the first spool (oem) ran out. 2nd spool, would go 5 feet (or less) then have to stop, open cap, manually feed line, reassemble, go 2 feet and repeat. It is a bad design, well documented problem with the line feeder. $79 down the drain, plus the time wasted. Did not even finish my small yard before I gave up. Now I get to test Home Depot 's refund policy....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LINE HOG NOT Grass Hog I own a Toro line trimmer that was giving me fits with line breakage and having to rewind the spool all the time. I looked at a number of electric trimmers and landed on the GH3000. However, many of the reviews indicated that it was a LINE HOG. So, I did some research and found a way to significantly reduce this problem. I really like this trimmer as the motor is in the handle and, with the right type of line, does my yard with less than a yard of trimmer line. I recommend this to anyone who has a moderate size yard but want a more powerful trimmer... using the trimmer line I found that works. The link below will detail the type of line you need to purchase at Home Depot to save you time and money

The edger wheel works is a great help for keeping a straight edge. I was surprised to see how much the wheel helped with trimming helped with trimming along the fence. It gave a much better trim than previous trimmers I've used. Switching from trimmer to edger is very easy as long as you turn it the correct direction. The electric is slightly heavier than the battery version but manageable. It stood up to thick, wet grass for the first edging of the season. Glad I bought the 7.5 amp with thicker trim string.

Slightly different design for edging tools with the new wheel instead of the bend wire guide. I thought I would like it better than the old design, and mostly I do. The only problem is that I am accustomed to sticking the wire guide into the edging groove. Now you roll the wheel on the sidewalk near the edging groove. It takes a little more paying attention to what you a doing. Also, this is a single cutting line head, not a dual line but the line is a heavier .080" line. Overall, after only using one time, this does appear to be a good product.

The first one stopped feeding the line through on its own and I got tired of hand feeding it through so I purchase an upgrade model which was 7.5 amp. I started using this trimmer and after its third use, a short occurred where you would plug in the power cord. It damaged my power cord so I though it was a bad cord. However, I tried two other power cords and the unit destroyed both power cords. I would recommend a different brand, B&D don't cut it...........

This product has a defective "auto line feed" design that makes it unusable without purchasing specially wound (expensive) Black & Decker line refill packages. I tried to carefully wind replacement line myself and the auto line feed system simply will not operate properly, either becoming hopelessly jammed or throwing out an entire spool of line in 15 minutes of use. I've only had this thing for 7 months and I'm tossing it out on the curb. A total waste of money.

But, if you have heavy grass to trim or leafy weeds this trim is under powered and you really need a dual line trimmer. The lawn edger function works well, I was very pleased with the results. If you 5'11" for taller you end up bent over the whole time using this tool. It would be nice if the neck were extendable for taller people. I was expecting more from this product and was very disappointed in the overall function.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Automatic String Feeder requires frequent intervention Rugged, well-made, simple, easy to flip between edger and trimmer. I like using it as an edger. But automatic feeder doesn't work. In the beginning, it wouldn't release line; I kept having to disassemble, let some line out, and reassemble. I called B&D and they sent me a replacement cover. Then it started working great for a couple of months. But then it started feeding an entire spool per trimming (and I don't have a large yard). Last week my wife had to trim, and she was carrying wire cutters to get the job done when it fed too much. Now, it feeds so much line that it become tangled. It finally wrapped the line around and around under the motor and killed itself.
