Questions & Answers

Where is this Black and Decker belt sander made?

Asked by N8 December 18, 2020

I had one for several years and the tip finally failed. I bought a new Ryobi cordless belt sander and it works much better until I have to change the battery. Changed. Then works great. I would never buy the corded Black and Decker again.

Need to replace front wheel on sander were to get it

can this sander be used on concrete

Asked by ladyflash September 5, 2017

You could but you will use a lot of belts and create a lot of dust

Can this machine be used to file a lump on a wooden floor?

Asked by Betty January 27, 2017

... not really....

Are extra dust bags available.

Asked by SNAPPYLOBSTER December 27, 2016

Probably, but you won't need one. Just empty the one you have and keep going. Better, just ignore the bag... it doesn't work well anyway.

I am thinking on getting this one to sand my old floors, how many belts do you think I will need?

Asked by Joaquin February 24, 2016

You will need a bigger floor sander

Can this be used to shave off 1/4 of inch off the width of a wooded door and how hard wood that be.

Asked by kingscourt October 26, 2015

To shave 1/4 sounds to me like using the wrong tool for the job. You need a saw, then sand it to precision.

Cheap belt sander
Owned this for approximately 2 years. Only used about five times. Today the bearing went bad, ball got loose and damaged the armature. During tear down I noticed that the gear box was not sealed and contained a lot of sanding dust. Just not quality parts nor design.

A Great Choice
I own couple of sanders and they fit my skill level and the jobs I take on. I am a intermediate level weekend woodworker with 50+ years of furniture build and restoration. BD has always worked for me.

Performed with Excellence!
Sanded 3 decks and performed without a flaw. Used 36 grit, 80 grit, and 100 grit to finish. Excellent value for cost.

Dragster Belt Sander
The belt sander was light weight and easy to use for small projects, however the front pulley guide did not last. It wore out after only15 hours of use. It is not designed for heavy duty use.

GREAT belt sander
I really can't complain about this belt sander. I used it for something that it really should NOT have been able to do and it worked GREAT... I used it to sand 70 yr. old hardwood floors. It took 3 days and a boat load of dust (albeit the sander actually collected most of it in the bag... you just have to empty the bag every 25 sq. ft. or so), but my floor looks GREAT. I haven't put my 2 coats of poly on there yet, but WOW. I'm uploading a before and after photo for those who want to see. The before photo was taken 2 years ago with a different camera but you should still be able to get the jest of the improvement. It's PHENOMINAL! Took away 70 years worth of caked on brown grime, filth, & stains. BTW, I returned the Ryobi 6 amp yellow sander (3 x 18 inch) to get this one. It didn't work any where NEAR as well, surprisingly...

Good sander at a great price
I have found this to be an excellent product for the price. Is it the best belt sander in the world? No...but then again, it's also $60, no $200+. I bought this primarily to speed up a project of building a solid workbench top from 2x4's, and it did exactly what I needed it to do....smooth out the top of the bench quickly. The most common complaint seems to be with the tracking...yes, it could be better, but it's not as bad as people are making it out to be...before you start using it, spend 30 seconds adjusting the tracking and you're set...once adjusted I didn't touch the tracking for the whole time I was using it (about 2hrs). I also have found the speed and 7amp motor more than sufficient for anything I'm going to use it for. Really, my only complaints are minor for a sander in this price range. One is the abundant use of plastic. There are some areas, such as the belt tension adjustment lever, that are plastic when I feel they should be steel. I can see this breaking if used heavily and the user isn't extra careful. My other complaint is the dust collection system. It's a complete workbench was covered in sawdust mere seconds after I started sanding. To be honest, I didn't really expect it not to be, and it didn't make the sander any less effective, but to advertise "dust collection bag helps keep your work area sawdust free" is completely false. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase. If you need a belt sander for everyday use, spring for a higher-end sander...but, if like me you have the occasional home project that calls for one, this should get you by, and for $60, you can't really go wrong.

Awesome sander
We narrowed down our results faster by checking out the label, this had a bigger motor and bigger belt. We took this bad boy home and put it to the test, we were finished with each piece of wood in no time. I mean zip in zip out. Over all, this sander exceeded our expectations!

Tough little machine
I have used one previously and it has held up under extreme use for years. I'm looking forward to using my new one for another 5 or more years.

Never had a problem.
I bought this 9 years ago, and have used it for various projects like floor refinishing around the edges... Never had a problem. I'm using it today.
