Could you mount a vice to this somehow?
Asked by: WillisMcGriddles
Wen used to make a vice that could be attached to the workmate bench through the holes. The workmate is it's own vice by the adjustable top 2 sections. You could attach a vice to a board and then attach the board to the workmate surface with clamps. Hope this helps.

can i clamp my rigid mitre saw to this workbench?
Asked by: LG
I wouldn't do it directly. I attached my Dewalt 713 miter saw to a 2x4 under the main platen and a 1x2 strip at the back, so they fit around the jaws of my Workmate 225. You may have to modify the concept for the 425, but it's a very stable platform for the miter saw, and also for my Cutech jointer, which I've mounted in a similar way.

If a person has any mechanical aptitude the assembly of this table is simple. As far as all the complaints about the plastic chain and rotating handles mine weren’t timed correctly like many others complained about. First off, the plastic drives were not in the same location, so when assembled the table wouldn’t close evenly putting excessive stress on the chain. After this coarse adjustment is reset (by setting the drives to the same location before installing top board) you have to do a fine adjustment by slipping the plastic chain and making the fine adjustment. Just unhook the tension spring and hop the chain one pin at a time over the drive handle you have chosen to adjust. My table now runs true, the handles are pointing identically, and the clamping force is uniform across the boards. Shame on the assemblers for not timing the drives properly. Other than that it’s a good product that I think it will come in handy. Overall I’m happy with the purchase and it was $101 well spent.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't make them like they used to... I bought this despite poor reviews because my dad's 30+ year old workmate is so great. I never expected a new one to be quite as good, but I'm very disappointed with the quality of this product. First of all, one of the bolts required for assembly had a mangled head making it unusable (there’s no hex). Second, once I did complete the assembly, I put one of the feet on a ¼” carpet and the other three on the floor below. The frame is so flimsy that the jaws didn’t match up any more. There is a ton of play in the vertical clamping assembly which makes it awkward to turn the handles in the horizontal orientation. The belt connecting the two handles holds when you don’t want it to and slips when you don’t want it to which makes it awkward to crank the handles in the first place. The jaws are made of soft three ply which is already marred just from assembly. As another review notes, you have to clamp the jaws together for storage (otherwise they will likely end up falling out).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but not durable I bought this to replace my old FORTY year old Workmate which is still usable but getting very beaten up it has been used so much. As one of the previous reviewers noted, it has some useful new features but the build is now so cheap I cannot foresee it lasting more than 5 years. Plastic has replaced metal in some critical parts, and the edge-finishing is sharp. I cannot foresee the bamboo top lasting long with repeated clamping - the edge has already splintered. I do like the added versatility over the old model, but at the expense of less-durable build and weight reduction, I feel this is a poor trade-off. I have used and abused my old one; it has been one of my great workshop assets. Such a shame the build of the new model is not to the same quality and durability. That's off-shore manufacturing and cost-savings I suppose. I think I'll give the new one to my kids and re-make the top on my old one - out of Baltic birch plywood as per the original.

Both had issues with the nylon belt slipping off the crank gears if too much pressure was used trying to secure something between the table top boards. With patience it can be gotten back on. This second purchase which I have had for two weeks has issues with the two widest bamboo top pieces de-bonding in numerous places at their ends and top. The piece with the degree diagram has bowed upward at the long edges causing a 1/8" gap in the center. Disappointed with two table top pieces but overall still like this Work Mate 425.

After that it went downhill when I determined the clamping mechanism was out of plumb, and no way I could find to adjust and or fix. The three "board" system is confusing and I never can seem to get the correct sequence of boards necessary to use the platform properly. I will say it has come in handy as a basic platform on which to place objects while working. This bench is overpriced. I would not feel as bad for purchasing this workbench if it would have cost half as much!

This "Made in China" Black+Decker quality is incredibly poor for such a brand. The clamp system died after 2 days, parts of the wooden working surface broke after 2 weeks ... My previous workmate had been a great help for me during 10+ years. I dropped this one after 1 month . Poor B+D !
