Hi Conchiles! Our Organic Compost is best used as a soil amendment, not as a standalone soil mix for azaleas. If you would like help choosing the best soil to grow azaleas, feel free to reach out to contact@backtotheroots.com. We are always here to help!
Hi Sherry! The ratio of green to brown material in our Organic Compost varies regionally. Please feel free to reach out to contact@backtotheroots.com, and we'd be happy to provide more information for your region. Generally, our green material is around 15-30%, with the bulk being more woody (brown) material, and it's processed 30 days to 6 months before bagging.
Hi Barb! Yes, it can be mixed with coco coir. Coconut Coir is often used to improve moisture retention and aeration, while compost adds organic matter and nutrients. Please note that this compost is designed as a soil amendment, not a standalone growing medium. For best results, we recommend mixing it into existing soil or blending it with other components. A common ratio when using coco coir is about 1 part compost to 2–3 parts coconut coir, then mix into native soil or combine with additional ingredients (such as sand or perlite) depending on your application.
Hi Leah! Each one of our Organic Compost bags is 1 cubic foot, which is 25.7 dry quarts or 28.3 liters.
Hi Victoria! Thanks for your question. Our Organic Raised Bed Soil does not include compost, but it’s specially formulated as a nutrient-rich base for raised beds. For a new bed, you can mix in compost or organic worm castings to give your plants an extra boost right from the start. A common approach is to mix roughly 25–30% compost or worm castings with your raised bed soil when filling your bed. Even with this mix, it’s always best to feed seedlings and more mature plants as they grow to keep vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers thriving.
Hi there! Our compost is proudly made in the USA using upcycled green waste and arbor fines. It isn’t taken directly from forests, so it’s not tied to any specific forest or region. Instead, we use responsibly collected plant and tree trimmings that would otherwise go to waste. Because compost ingredients can vary by region, the “processed forest products” in our mix may include a range of wood-based materials—such as sawmill byproducts (like bark or sawdust) or ground tree trimmings from local arborists. This variation is completely normal and helps us recycle valuable organic materials while maintaining a consistent, high-quality compost.
Hi Jeannie! Thank you for your thoughtful feedback. We value honest reviews, and we encourage customers to update their feedback as their gardens grow. Hi Diane! Thanks for your question! Our Organic Compost doesn't have a defined NPK (nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium) value and is designed more as a soil amendment than a fertilizer or main soil. While it helps improve soil structure and boost organic matter, it's not specifically formulated to adjust pH or deliver targeted nutrients. Since fruit trees and angel trumpets typically prefer more acidic soil, we recommend testing your soil’s current pH first. Depending on the results, you may want to supplement with a soil acidifier or other amendments. Our compost can absolutely be used alongside those to enrich your soil overall. If you'd like help choosing the right soil or amendments for your garden, feel free to reach out to us at contact@backtotheroots.com — we’re happy to help!
