A: Hi there, There is no expiration date on the Mushroom Farm but we recommend growing it within the first few months for the best results. That said, if you remove the farm from the box and it's firm and covered in a white coating, it's growable. If the farm is dark and mushy, it's very old and won't grow. A: You can mix your mushroom kit substrate (the brick-like block your mushrooms are growing out of) into sawdust, coffee grounds, straw bale, or other cellulose rich material in a large bucket or pot. Make sure the substrate (new) is moist but not mud like. Here is a video that might help with how to set up a second harvest. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulqgw-OosuM

A: You definitely can grow multiple harvests, but they won't continuously from the same area after you harvest them. A: We guarantee one harvest from our Mushroom Mini-Farm and Mushroom Farm. That said, each kit is unique and can grow multiple times! We encourage you to keep experimenting and growing your kit. There are a few different ways you can grow your kit for a 2nd time. The first way is by growing your kit in the original box just like you did the first time. The other way to grow your 2nd crop is a little more experimental and out of the box -- literally! You can mix your mushroom kit substrate into sawdust, coffee grounds, straw bale, or other cellulose rich material in a large bucket or pot. Make sure the substrate (new) is moist but not mud like. Waste of money and time!

If you have money to burn and time to waste... for no results whatsoever, why this product is for you!!! Thank God for Home Depot because without them I would say you are getting set up to buy a couple of saw dust loaves. I tried to reach the customer service at "BACK TO THE ROOTS" so i wouldn't bother Home Depot...NO SUCH THING!!! I followed the directions for their beginner level mushroom kit and mycilium rich substrate to the letter. 20 days later not one sign of pinning or mushrooms. To qualify this review... I don't write reviews! I don't even complain at a restaurant. If the service or food is lacking, I quietly leave and don't return. I have 5 other mushroom projects on schedule or doing quite nicely! Just want to help others avoid this aggravation and once again thank god for Home Depot. and their return policy!

Within just a few days, the mushrooms started growing and didn't stop. The final product was just as neat as the box advertises and tasted wonderful in the spaghetti sauce we made. We attempted to grow off of the other side of the package, as the box noted it is possible but not guaranteed, but didn't have any luck. Regardless, this was super simple and a lot of fun.
