It screws into wood indoors (most houses have wood frames which support the sliding glass door frame) so it works fine in wood. It might eventually disintegrate from the UV light outdoors but my original bumpers did so indoors after twenty years. Should be no problem outside.
Just insert a screwdriver with proper head and unscrew the old one. I used the original screw as it was a little smaller that the one that came with the bumpers. I inserted the screw into the bumper first then attached it to the door and tightened the screw.
