My circa 1979 house had the most awful attic access door--an opaque plastic panel that doubled as a hall light. Far more than I realized, the old attic access door leaked hot air in the summer and cold air in the winter. This simple, elegant attic access hatch solved that problem big time. It took a handyman an hour or so to install and the final result looks handsome.

Didn't want to take the time to build this myself. My attic entrance was in the hallway which forever drove me crazy. So it's remodel time and this was on the list. I moved it into the soon to be gym. As others have noted it isn't very flush to the ceiling. I used a ladder and a 2x4 to add more pressure and get it a much tighter fit. Doing so did crack the seams just a bit. But it just needs a small bead of caulk now. Very well built.

Cool Concept that works
Why didn't somebody think of this earlier? Clean Installation, went well - didn't have prior attic access. Blends nicely, no need to paint and you would not know it was there - loved the idea of the R42 push open hatch - does not cause the slightest change in air temp or draft.

Easy to install. Way overpriced for what you get. The molding of the frame is nice but the door itself is just a huge block of styrofoam attached to a piece of plastic. But it looks nice when installed.
