Questions & Answers

Will this torch kit loosen bolts stuck from the results of heat.

Asked by: JM
Yes possibly. May have to heat all the way around the bolt and nut. Stay patient with it. May take a little time to get warm enough to loosen up

Can I use for plumbing needs, like fixing copper pipe

Asked by: plumberbut
Yes I've used it for soldering. This model puts out a bigger flame which puts out a lot of heat even approaching some smaller MAP torches.

I was a bit apprehensive because of the mixed nature of the reviews but thought I'd try it as I needed a torch for home plumbing repairs. It works great for pre-assembling pipes on a workbench but is atrocious for "realistic" work. The biggest downside I found was that the folks who complained about its being unusable upside down were right. It flames out and is difficult to relight once that happens. While fighting to get it relit and hold it in some position that will heat the joint hot enough to melt solder, the joint cools down. I ended up having to take the joint apart to reapply flux, dig a hole to hold the torch in (outdoor plumbing line feeding the house), and hit it again. I ended up returning this torch kit the same day I bought it and will use a TS4000 in the future. I'll have to be careful not to overheat the joint using MAPP gas but 5-10 seconds is all it takes to heat a joint to the right temperature and I can use it in any position. I've learned that it's worth the extra money to get the next model up and advise you to do the same.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from FIRST time users need to READ this I am a first time torch user, bought it mainly for home use including cooking after I saw an interesting recipe on Arizona Republic last month. Tried using it today and it worked for my purpose. On ease of installation, I am rating it 3 because of lack of information. I am sure it is obvious for professionals, but for me it took sometime to figure this out. Neither the small install guide provided with the kit, nor the numerous videos on the Youtube show or tell you this information! The propane cylinder comes with a cap (was black in color, but saw few videos where it was white). I was not sure if I should remove the cap or fit it as is, because the cap seem to have circular place holder about the size of the small nozzle on the torch pistol that you fit into. YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE CAP before trying to fit into the torch pistol:). Only then will you find the screw head on the cylinder tank's top that you need to screw back into the torch pistol gun.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easier Than I thought!! I had to replace an old hose bibb, so went to homedepot.com, found this do-it-yourself torch kit and purchased it. Got up Saturday morning fired it up and replaced my hose bibb without any leakage. Easy to put together. Worked perfect for me!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Torch. Had one of these for years, managed to break the handle a few months ago. So I bought another to replace it. Great torch easy to use, easy to light, both have been dependable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Adjuster knob fails I've had to return this product for a replacement, and with both torches, the adjuster knob gets stuck. The adjuster knob has broken both times even with very gentle use. The quality of this product is terrible.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from worst torch head ive ever owned I had the standard brass torch head for years never an issue but needed replacing they do wear out eventually, as a gift it was retired and this replaced it. Owned this junk for a year now, first use no problem ,second had to use external means to light it the igniter gave out. Third the valve stuck half way so I couldn't solder with it, never even a tip appeared. Had I used it for a bbq but fine solder not in the slightest, wasted two tanks of gas till the valve finally opened fully and the flame sputtered out, tank was out of gas , total waste of time and money. Skip this product get a brass or better quality one, this will only be bad money spent . Completely disappointed and dissatisfied
