Torch doesn't stay lit.

Full tank of propane, but torch won't stay lit, seems to flame out, any clues why?
Asked by: K4zmb
You have your gas turned on to high. Just barely turn it on, then light it.

Is the tank full?

Asked by: Shayne
There is only one way to tell put the torch head on it and try lighting it. Make sure that your torch in on just a little bit before putting lighter to it, to much gas will cause it not to light.

Although I gave it three stars, I only would recommend this for a well rounded DIY as the thing may be finnicky to keep lit. The problem is that there is no way to adjust the mix air/gas - the holes you see there on the picture, are too big in my opinion. Use a charcoal lighter to lit it just because it is easy to trigger it on, then approach the flame to the torch, from the side so the gas won't blow the flame off specially if you open it too much. After some practice you will get it. After 11 years, always been kinda annoying to get it lit and going but it eventually did, so like I said, after eleven years, I had a drop of molten solder fall inside the tip - dang - and although it did not weld, it was jammed good with the insert and rendering the thing impossible to re-lit on the day after once it cooled down. To complicate things, when I pulled the drop of solver the tip insert came out with its little metal mesh diffuser and it caused the torch not to lit anymore as it seems a very precise factory adjustment. My solution was to add sliding metal sleeve over the holes such as I could adjust the mixture: worked like a charm and made it much easy to light it . I think they should add this sleeve from factory.

For a basic brass torch, I'd expect not to be disappointed, but I am. If I'd never had an older one, I'd think this one was fine, I guess. I returned to a basic torch, tiring of piezo torches developing leaks inside the grips. This torch is small, about 2/3 the size of the old brass torches, and its flame is also quite small. Fussy to light, fussy to keep lit in wind. Don't expect to heat so much with it if you're accustomed to an older torch. This can be an advantage, of course, if you need to pinpoint heat for some reason, and it's fine for soldering and such, but not as useful for heating objects. The gooseneck is particularly short, even considering the small size. I dislike the plastic knob. The valve feels soft, like it uses a rubber or plastic seal rather than a machined seat. I see no way to get the valve apart to renew seals or packing, so consider it disposable if it leaks. There's no trend here that doesn't reflect modern all other marketing...just be aware.
