What type of wood is this elevated planter made of?

Asked by PlantLady May 26, 2021

Answer

I believe it is made out of Fir, a type of cedarwood. It smells nice! I got two of these and I am very happy with them. Note - the wood is not sealed against moisture, and I've seen some comments where people had some issues with that. So far my veggies are all growing nicely in the two that i acquired a few months ago. !

Mine didn't come with any instructions! Can I download them somewhere?

How much dirt does it hold?

Asked by Larry May 22, 2021

Answer

It holds a little over 3 cubic feet, roughly. I emptied a new 3 CF bag of potting soil into it, and there was enough room to add some bone meal and worm castings to it but not by much. The inside measurements are roughly 48" L x 23 " W x 8.75" H, so you can calc how much for yourself, depending on how close to the very top you want to fill it.

Does this have to be painted or stained before use?

Yes. We feel so and will most likely do so.

I found it easy to assemble. Required minimal tools. I did end up pulling out my staple gun to better attach the liner. I love that I can roll it to different areas for sunlight, rain or bad weather. I originally ordered 2 and will likely get another one next year.

not good
The wood is very light. We put it together and stained it. In the morning we cam out and the leg was split above the wheel. Call the company best choice they said the warrante is through home depot for the first 30 days then it goes to them. The wont send replacment parts till 30 days

Poorly made
I was disappointed that the one I received was poorly made. I bought this for my mother’s birthday. I saw how many great reviews this product had, and I really liked the end product I saw online but the one I got was so terrible to put together. As I started putting it together for my mother, I noticed there are 2 sets of legs (2 of each). I got 3 of one set and 1 of the other set (photos attached). I didn’t want to exchange it because no stores close to me sell it and it already took at least a week for it to be shipped to me. So instead I ended up drilling my own holes to turn one leg into the missing one. I thought that would be it, but as I continued putting it together, some of the steps were exceptionally difficult because the predrilled holes were CROOKED. So I re-drilled those holes to make them more aligned so the hardware could fit together. It took hours to build because of these issues.

Good quality raised bed for the price. It took two of us about 30 min to assemble and the instructions were easy to understand.

Item as described. As mentioned
Item as described. As mentioned in other reviews, you need to drill pilot holes before inserting screws to prevent splitting. Excess water leaks around predrilled holes on the bottom when watering. We purchased a second one, because space is pretty limited.

EXCELLENT!!! I recommended it to
EXCELLENT!!! I recommended it to friends and family and sent it as a birthday gift to 2 young kids as I think it helps young kids to start learn the importance and the rewards of gardening, farming and lives., how producing what we consumes contribute to our lives. I think its great for people who don't want the effoet required for a large garden, if one has health concerns, has a small space or any other reason.

Elevated Garden
Love this product! This is the second one I’ve purchased this summer and have been so happy with the ease of assembling them, the look, the quality and cedar smell of the wood and even the price. It’s excellent and I’d recommend it in a heartbeat. They’ve provided a great deal of pleasure and pride!

Garden bed is perfect. Great
Garden bed is perfect. Great quality assembly instructions were easy to follow and I took time to ensure it’s construction. I actually stained mine to bring more color to patio where it will reside. Like the wheels as it does allow it to be moved elsewhere if desired. Good choice, good product, cost efficient
