Bought one of these the other day and took it out of the box to get to work and noticed that the black main post was curved. Is this normal? It still worked, but I'm not sure if I should take it back

Yes, the main post should not be curved, it should be straight as shown in the picture. I have a problem with the pins keep falling out so I got some locking pins just to be save.

Will this jack lift a John Deere farm tractor?

I would guess maybe. If you had firm footing under it and it was high enough that the jack didn't have to extend more than 18". I would be uncertain if you were trying to have the lift 3' or more up the pole. Might bend if not perfectly straight and things lean.
