Q:I just planted a ton of perennials in a new bed. My soil is sand. I made big holes, filled them with Black Kow manure compost, and a very small amount of my native soil. I thought I could plant directly into the compost. Are my plants going to die?

Not the Same
Just used 8 bags Black Cow. Recipe is not the same as last year. Mine was full of rocks and wood chunks and was generally just sludgy and nasty. Also seem to have dye in it of some type. The company continues to say it is 100% manure. It is not.
Do yourself a favor and find a farmer with horses or cows.

BEWARE
Three years ago I tried Black Kow and thought it was gold. The past two years it has had pieces of papers, wood chips, sticks every thing but the cow manure. I had to go back the next days and pick up as I could off my lawn because it’s not soil or manure.
So disappointed!!!

Not the same as in previous years. . .
We have purchased Black Kow for the past three years. We loved what we got in the past. Today we bought 30 bags; and rather than being black and finally textured, it was medium brown and had a lot of sticks and other matter in it – not cow manure. It looks virtually the same as the mulch that we purchased. We are very disappointed in this year‘s black cow. And from reading reviews across the Internet, it seems that we are not the only ones with this complaint. The first picture is from a 2020 bag of Black Kow, the second picture is 2021 Black Kow—not remotely similar. The third picture is one solid piece of wood that came out if the Black Kow bag. I would feel awful for any cow that expelled that chunk of wood! Looks like somebody’s taking shortcuts in composting to get more product to the market, but at the expense of your reputation. Very unimpressed.

Bought 30 bags of wood chips.
I have been using this product for years and have recommended it to many of my clients. This year the product changed. It is complete garbage. I wasted over $150 for 30 bags of this to amend my garden. I don't know what happened this year, its as if they took the waste from a grinding operation and loaded into bags and sold it. Large pieces of wood and mostly small wood chips.
What a shame. This USED to be good stuff. Buyer beware!

It's NOT Cow Manure!
I used this stuff yrs ago and it was cow manure then. It is NOT now. There is absolutly no smell and there should be, was full of wood chips more like a cheap top soil. had shredded plastic, rubber etc in it! If city folk dont like the smell of poop they have other options. but to sell this as cow manure is actually false and ilegal! Cow maure is ment to halp adjust bad soil and add nutrients! This is garbage! Below is photo. top part is black cow and bottom was the cheap top soil i bought at same time. as you can see,,, its no different!

Something is wrong
Purchased several bags this year mixing into three of the four raised vegetable beds. The one bed which didn’t receive this product is flourishing the units with Black Kow all the plants are stunted. The plants used are all from the same batch, receive the same amount of sunlight, water, etc the only variable is Black Kow. Will not purchase this stuff again
