The manual I just downloaded says that this saw uses a 25:1 fuel/oil mixture. Is this correct? The other saws specify 50:1 or 40:1.
Asked by: Mindy

First, I have 30 years with chainsaws at the personal land clearing and annual heavy firewood level, maintain and rebuild (as needed) 11 different saws. I enjoy saws and the mechanical/upkeep aspect of ownership. That said, and having heavily researched reviews on this 52cc saw, I was impressed that most of the negative reviews were either admittedly novices or sounded like novices. Worst case scenario, I figured I could return the saw if it was indeed the junk some of the reviewers portrayed it to be. Visually, my initial impression was no more plastic than a modern "mainstream" saw. Not any more flimsy appearing than any other. Assembly was basic and straightforward, especially with chainsaw experience. If not, instructions were very clear. Fuel and oil caps are a tad smaller than my other saws but are sturdy and thread up nicely. Bar and chain appear to be good quality, would have preferred a 3/8 pitch but can't have everything. Nice tight tooth spacing. Pure gasoline and high quality synthetic mix oil at 40:1, fueled and oiled up. Choked and trigger at full throttle, engine "bumped" on third pull. Choke off, then engine started immediately. Warmed up several seconds, then full throttle for 30 seconds or so to set the piston. Rev'd up nice and strong, the usual new burn off and initial fuel smoke. Melted through 16 inch red oak for 20 or so cuts for 20" firewood chunks right off the bat. Then on to a variety of white oak, red oak, maple and a little loblolly pine, all 4" to 16" diameter. The usual new chain stretch was adjusted for after the first tank of fuel, then 6 more tanks. Chain oiling was perfect. I knicked the chain on a rogue rock and had to stop since I had no extra chain for this saw yet and dark was falling quickly. This is a strong 52cc saw, runs well and seems to be a good combination of engine power bar length, and chain selection. I handles well and weight is appropriate for engine and bar size, anti vibe is excellent. Time will tell about durability. I will likely purchase another.

I needed a new saw for carving chain saw bears and cutting firewood for the wood stove in my man cave. I could not be happier with the 18 inch Blue Max. It should be named the "Blue Beast". I have had the saw for about 5 weeks and I have used it everyday. This saw will start worm or cold with no more then 2 pulls of the rope. This saw is lightweight and easy to handle. When carving bears or cutting firewood in the hills I find myself doing a lot of off angle cuts. The vibration dampening handle makes working with this saw all day comfortable.

I had a 100' tree fall in my yard and was able to cut the entire tree into firewood length pieces, even the trunk, which was over 2' thick. It does seem to cut faster with the 30% more teeth in the chain. I would have given it 5 stars except that the fuel tank and oil tank are not clear. With the new restrictions on gas cans, it is impossible to tell how much gas is in the tank when you are filling it since you have to insert the nozzle all the way into the tank to dispense gas. So, either I overfill the tank or it is not full and I have to keep adding a little at a time.

I bought this a few years ago and wanted to write a review after using it for a while. Those who wrote a review immediately were offered a chance to win a prize. So, who would write a bad review with that in mind? So, after a few years of on and off cutting, I have several problems with mine. First, the choke knob broke off. Second, the on-off switch broke. Third, the chain brake was always snapping on when I was cutting at full speed, resulting in the brake burning up. I managed to keep using the chainsaw by tying the brake guard to the handle, unscrewing the choke (what was left) enough to grab it, and using the choke (full) to stop the engine (since the on-off switch is always "on"). Other than all those problems, the engine ran great and I cut a lot of wood with it. But, don't ask me to buy another one!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The Blue Chainsaw The saw came complete with all the tools needed for assembly and good instructions. It was easy to assemble. However I was not happy with it. Firstly it requires a 40:1 mix on the fuel unlike my other 2 cycle tools that require a 50:1 ratio. After purchasing a 40:1 mix I tried to start it following the instruction on the saw. They are different from other saws I have used and did not start as it was supposed to. When I did get it started it ran fairly well on vertical cuts. However when I used it turned on its side for a horizontal low cut it continually stalled. I tried it again a day later with the same results.

As you read this please keep in mind I'm relatively new to handling chainsaws. This product came in quickly and was very easy to assemble. Operating and adjusting the chain was very simple as well. I tried it on some logs that I had unsuccessfully tried to chop with a friend's Sthil 029, betting it would not be able to do the job. I was dead wrong. This saw cut through them like they were nothing but twigs. I went around looking for more stuff to cut but was still done clearing my property much earlier than anticipated. It seems to me like it burned through gas and chain oil much faster than others saws I had previously used though. I'll give it some credit since it's a much more powerful beast than the others. I'll go over this review in a few months to report on how the saw behaves after a few months. Some of the reviews I read previously mentioned this product would malfunction after a while, so I'm really hoping that this was only a few bad cases.

Was able to cut up a full tree in very little time. Was nervous about buying because not familiar with the brand but, We have two husquvarnas and a craftman chainsaw and this one works better than those others. So glad we got this one.
