Does this shrink when dried? Does it act like a glue also? Have large outdoor woden figure that has cracked/split in spots..1/4" looks to be widest...want to fill and seal cracks to keep rain out so it wont split again in winter.

Is there any way to slow down the curing time? I've played with reducing the amount of hardner a bit but that does not seem to make much of a difference. I'm afraid of reducing the amount of hardner anymore for fear the product will not setup properly.

Answer This Question

Hello - Thank you for asking. You're correct in what you've tried so far, as we also recommend reducing the amount of hardener to help slow down the curing time! So that we can troubleshoot further and try to help balance the amount of hardener and curing time, please connect with our team directly at 1-800-494-3552 Mo-Fri 8am-4:30pm CT.

Hello - Thank you for asking. You can use this on pressure-treated wood, but we do not recommend using it on that surface if there are large cracks or gaps. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please connect with our team directly at 1-800-494-3552 Mo-Fri 8am-4:30pm CT.

Why do your directions tell how much wood filler to add to that “3 inch “ of tube squeeze? If the product is as bad as the directions. I have wasted my money.

      Answer This Question

I have been using for a while. The maximum recommended is a 3 inch circle of epoxy to a 3 inch bead of hardner. No more as it will start drying before you have it all applied. So basically 1 inch circle 1 inch bead 2-2 and 2-3. Mix throughly and use immediately. I found you have about 4-5 minutes to apply it before it starts to harden.

        Can half empty
As with potato chips and cereal, it's always disappointing to open a new product and see the packaging half empty. I'm sure the "weight" probably aligns, but I estimate amounts by volume, so I bought this size can based on how much I thought I'd use. It feels like I've been ripped off.

The wood epoxy worked great. I learned a lot, though. Mix it in very small batches and be very sparing with the hardener. It cures up really fast. They recommend using a wood hardener first.

Hardens too quickly for use when you have a number of different spots needing attention. Delivery driver was obscenely overdue and can had been crushed.

Losing another longtime customer to shrinkflation
Hey 3M. Just understand that when a customer pays retail then opens your can to see it half full, the customer gets angry, takes a picture, gets online, blasts you publicly, then never buys your product again. Side note: Why bother with the same size tube of cream hardner then? You might has well add one the size of a pea.

Outstanding product, does take some practice!
This works very well but does take some practice in mixing. I mixed it too hot the first time and had little time to spread. No worries, after it hardened, I sanded smooth (not off) with 80 grit and correctly mixed and applied the second coat, let it harden, QUICK pass of 80 grit, sanded smooth with 220, two coats of Bin primer, 2 coats of Behr Marquise paint and done. Those who are more instinctively artistic will have better results. This requires mechanical and artistic skill. If you are bereft of both, find someone else to do it. This repair was on wood laminated MDF. Before repair, the exposed MDF fibers were first hardened with Bondo Rotted Wood Restorer and 220 grit sanded smooth. Can opens like any other paint can. This repair does take time and is not instant. You must follow the instructions.

              Poor instructions!
Guys, you have contradictory info on your technical data sheet! You say "Yes" for stainable but the icon has a line drawn through it (meaning "No."). You also don't demo how to take the stupid lid off. Can't use the product if I can't get the lid off. Epic technical writing fail.

Excellent filler to match your trim. I filled a section of tongue and groove that had water damage. Replicated the look with this filler. Sanded and painted to look like there was no damage. Incredible!!

use ONLY if painting the project
The bondo wood filler worked fine. The problem is that I believed their advertisement " MIXES GOLDEN YELLOW when filler and hardener are mixed together". It is a lie. It mixes GREEN GREEN GREEN. It does not accept stain, it stays GREEN.
